Hey there folks. I've got a wellsophylia coral who seems like he's going through a tough acclimation. The strange thing is, he should have gone through a tough acclimation about 3 weeks ago, and instead is just now starting to show signs of stress.
I recently went from my 36 gallon to the current 75 set up, transfered all of the live rock and sand, transfered a lot of the water to a holding tank (which later was then added to the 75 for stability), and also added new of all of the above. I used the water from the 36 for "containment" in the quarantine as I transfered everything over, made sure the water had stabilized and there were no nitrate or amonia spikes, then started moving everyone over one at a time starting with my wellsophylia. He was the first one in, and he seemed to do very well after day 2, after his success I started bringing everyone else over. By the end of day 2, everyone was in, happy, and acclimated. All the crabs, shrimp, anemones, sponges, etc were all fine for the move. Seems like the "tank" of the bunch is all of a sudden not liking the new tank.
Amonia-0
Nitrite-0
Nitrate-0
PH-8.3
Calcium-330 ppm ( a LITTLE low)
Magnesium- 1080 ppm (also, a LITTLE low)
Alk/KH- 10.6 and 3.77
I know the calcium and the mag are a little low, as well as the Alk/KH being a little off (want it to be 8/0 and 2.9, but can't seem to get it to ballance out at all)
The one BIG thing I can think of is this: I USED to use Instant Ocean Reef Crystals on the 36. I recently went to regular Instant Ocean Salt instead of the reef crystals. (the perils of sending someone to get 100 pound box salt while you're at work) I know this is the reason for my low trace elements and I'e been adding calcium and magnesium to bring it up, but have been going slow mainly with top off to try and not shock the system. Additionaly, I believe my trace elements have always been a little low, but never this low.
Could this be the simple root of my evils? Or any other issue all together?
Take a look at this erosion near the mouth. Any ideas anyone?
