I went grouper fishing saturday and ended up fishing into the night. I caught 1 grouper, 1 flounder and this 5 foot black tip.

And to top it all off i caught it on a $20 walmart spinning rod with 30lb test and a #2 shrimp hook.

thats cool as hell,i bet that shark put up a good fight,as they usally do.i hope the grouper and flounder were keeper sized,at least you can get a good dinner out of it.im not a fan of shark meat :(

I fought it for an hour being it was my first shark i have ever caught and we missed it a few times with the gaf and the pole and hook it was on. It was so much fun. Both the flounder and grouper were legal and in my freezer along with 12- 1.5"-2" shark steaks. Gave half to a couple friends.

Caught 2 other groupers but they were undersized so got thrown back. Gonna try a few different recipes for the shark.

A walmart pole that is medium action for 8-15lbs line. Running 30lbs test and a #2 shrimp hook. I was just using it to catch small grunts while waiting for something big to hit my big pole.

That sounds really good. I have read that you only want to cook it to medium otherwise it gets dry cooked anymore than that. I will try that 1.

Blacktip is great Smoked, You could also put it in an Aluminum baking pan with 1/4 stick of butter, lemon juice, Everglades or Goyo Seasoning and Throw it on the Grill (Or Oven). Just like mflamb said.

I caught it about 10 miles straight of Johns Pass.
I did kill it right away. I understand they pee thru their skin and if you soak the meat in milk it takes the ammonia out of it.
I have also thought about smoking it with mallases and brown sugar.

The best thing to do is to cut the caudal peduncule and drag it next to the boat for a while to get all of the blood out. They store urea in their muscles to aid in osmoregulation, so you need to bleed them out to get that taste out.
