Went to Hidden Reef Today

First impression the place was huge and very clean.. They had a good amount of dry good stuff not quite as much as TFP but they had nice stuff.... The fish room is pretty big but i dont think its as big as TFP's including their fresh water stuff.

They did have many different species of fish as they always had before some really nice stuff... some sick stuff but i guess that is to be expected.

I was kinda disapointed with their corals.. or atleast the way they are displayed... For some reason all of the corals have a pink/red/brownish tint to them. And now that i think about it.. all their corals at the old place had this to.. They have Halides over the tanks... but for some reason no other colors are popping out and grabbing me.. They had a TON of softies and a few LPS and even fewer SPS.

Id say they are off to a good start but need to figure out whats up with their lighting.

Thats funny, I also went to Hidden Reef today. Actually I went to The Fish Factory, The Hidden Reef, Pets Plus in Langhorne, Big Al's, and on my way home East Coast Aquatics. Was a fun day, wish I could say the same for my wife.... next time I will have to get a fellow reefer to take the ride with me! :D

Shnabbles, I agree with your opinion of the Hidden Reef, especially the lighting. I like everything about the store so far, but just wish they had a little better coral selection, but what they did have was not bad, but nothing that said "TAKE ME HOME WITH YOU TODAY" :( But again, they are still getting everything rolling again.

I did like their prices on the Clams, which was one of the reasons I went there today, but they had so many choices, I figure i would come back look at my tank and decide where I would really put one and what I need to move around.

I was up there today. I do like the place, but every time I go, there is something there I want to buy, and they wont sell it to me. First time, it was becuase the fish were acclimating. I would rather buy the fish then before it gets totally acclimated to "their" water. Today, my second visit, I saw a really nice flowerhorn cichlid, but it wasnt for sale, it was still "under observation". But I did come home with a nice blue eye kole tang, and a 2" crocea clam. Clams are $25 for 2", $30 for 3" and $50 for 4-5". Nice deal. Nice store.

Marty and I went up there last week to check it out. I liked it. much bigger and more inventory than in the old store. still filling some of it up. The tank room was cool. nice airy feeling , high ceilings and the tanks on the long walls on a slight convex curve. very spooky. makes you want to walk right in and explore. yes they are all pretty much full of livestock. and the cycling is coming along. Lots of nice fish, both fresh and salt water. they all looked in good shape to me. the coral section will naturally take a bit longer to cycle in. we all know how that works in our own tanks. but its doing fine.

I cant wait until they get to set up their reef display tank again. it will be on the back wall of the store area near the tank room entrance. I believe they saved most of the corals from the old store tank. but right now they are working on completing the rest of the store and inventory. lots of nice new tanks for sale too. great selection of sizes and styles.

and a good pond section too. for ponders and fraggers they have a bunch of the new Laguna PVC basins for sale. they make good patio pond liners, curing vats, sumps? or frag tanks?. heres a link to what they look like. they have all 3 sizes. Dont know if they are for above ground or need ground or frame side support. but the price is right. and they are light in weight. Im thinking about one.

and of course they have some good deals on salt. My favorite crystal sea for $20 a box. and IO reef crystals were pretty low along with some 50 pound bags of tropical Marin salt at a bargain price. Nice new store. I'll be back.

I was at The Hidden Reef today and Jason told me they are getting on Tuesday another 100 Clams in. I can't wait to see that.

Most of the Fish show up on monday but I rather wait to see how the look the next day.

I seen they have the new JBJ Nano instock 28 HQI. I thought they where all sold out. Might have to pick one up.

Oh I forgot to mention. for the Acrylic DIY'ers out there, they also have the 4 oz cans of Weldon 4, and small tubes of Weldon 16, and the little plastic applicator bottles with the hypodermic needle for the weldon 4. in the rack of pipe fittings and bulkheads. always good stuff to have around.
