Sweet, can't wait for Tuesday. I built myself a auto feeder today for my "mixture". I used a paristalic pump, and a small fridge. I need to add a air pump to keep things mixed up but it has been running since noon and is dosing a perfect 1/4 a cup every two hours. I watered down my mixture just to be sure I don't polute the tank. I am back to total automation again. All controlled by my Neptune. :bounce2::bounce3::bounce1:

Is that for the Basket Starfish?

Yes and the barrel sponge, and my Gorgs and my Scleronephthya and my feather and I guess my SPS. I want to add another Scleronephthya so I need constant feeding. (I think!)

Yes. I changed the feed to 1/4 of a cup every three hours. This should dose what I have been doing manually. Just over a more spread out time period. 8 times a day instead of four.

GL feeding your basket starfish during the day with fish! lol It is a PITA to feed my basket starfish during the day. I'm going to feed the Basket starfish during the day once they get much larger so the fish would be a little scared to come close to the basket starfish. lol What will you be feeding your basket starfish? Also, IMO, I don't think the tube sponge will need to be spot fed.

I don't spot feed the non-photo stuff. Well except for my sun corals. I dump into the stream of a pump and let it fly. No one bothers my feather star. Do you think the basket will be different?

I will feed my same mixture. Pretty sure there is something in there he will like. I have read that they like phyto. Not to sure about that. I will experiment until I see results. What are you feeding yours? Since they are coming from the same waters I suppose they will eat the same stuff.

from what I've read, slapshot, the feathers are 100x harder to take care of than the baskets. I've done a lot of research about this and the baskets are basically serpent stars that eat phyto and stuff. Feathers are a whole different story.

Interesting, my feather is doing great. It is cool to watch him eat. He starts waving his arms when ever I feed, or now when the computer feeds.

Oohh, I have to spot feed mine because my tank is really big and it would take a LOT of food to feed the starfish if I dump it in the tank. lol If no one is bothering your feather starfish, then they basket should be fine. :)

They LOVE copeez. They like chunks of meat as well, just not too big chunks. I'm feeding mine my home made fish food.

Yup, the feather starfish are much harder to keep than the basket starfish. Also, I was talking to a starfish biologist and she said the reason why most starfish/basket starfish die in captivity is because they have a very hard time adapting to synthetic saltwater.

Then I should be all set. Thanks for the information.

Np. :) Can you give me a link to your recipe of food? Don't remember where I saw it before. Or you can just post it here. :)

I feed. Frozen Cyclops by themselves. Then a mixture of Fauna Marin's Clam Food, Sea Fan food, Ultra Min mixed with Ultra Min S. ( I get these from Ottawa Inverts), Golden Pearls, Rods Coral Food and a little live phyto. Three times a week, or so, I add two drops of a frozen Phyto Concentrate (I get this from Brine Shrimp Plus, it is mixture of different types of phyto). I follow the directions for Fauna's gorgonian system. I mix it up in 200 Ml of water and add that throughout the day. The food seems expensive but it last a long long, long time. I have had my containers for 6 months and I am only half way through.

Oh, ok. Nice mixture! That is quite expensive. I'll probably use the whole bottle in 6 months because I have a large tank(300 gallons total water volume).

The trick is to feed way less then you think but more often. A little goes a long way. Those filter feeders can find it.....I hope. Yours can't be that cheap. That is a lot of sea food!! BTW my display is 150 but sumps total about 300, so 400 gallons or so.

Oh. WOW! Your system is bigger than mine by 100 gallons! lol I thought your DT was 90 gallons for some reason?

Yeah the FM foods are super concentrated. I would also add baby brine shrimp if you can. Ocean nutrition sells it in bottle form, and pretty much everything in my tank including the feather star gobbles the stuff up.
