Wet/Dry Sump?

I'm a little bit confused, thanks to the guy at the LFS. He said that wet/dry is synonymous with sump ... This is not true, is it? You can have a sump without having a wet/dry set up.

Or so I thought ...

You are correct.

A wet-dry filter has some sort of plastic media like bio-balls to perform conversion of ammonia to nitrate. A sump is just a small, special-purpose tank that holds equipment.

As stated above> what makes it a wet/dry is the bio balls, and most likely you will not use(or want to ) them.

Thanks, that's what I thought.

He also wanted to sell me an already established tank. I asked "it comes with everything here? Including the water?" His answer was "oh no, we don't transport the water. We'll set up new water for you. It'll be ok, the filter already has the proper bacteria."

haha, no thanks.
