Wet Side Shroud Positioning

I've been wondering if there's an optimum or preferred position for the solid section (no slots) of the wet side shroud. I currently have this at the top, i.e. 12 o'clock position. Is there a set position? I've had another look at the instructions and nothing in there indicating where this section should be, so I assume it really doesn't matter??

I don't think it makes any difference, other than the solid section can be placed upward if you're getting air being drawn down from the surface (i.e. pump is really high in the water)

Great, thanks very much. I do have it fairly close to the top of the tank and have noticed it draw a little vortex/twister of air a number of times when it's ramped up to full speed.

Thanks again for the additional feedback. My tank is a 75 gallon, close to 24 inches tall and the top of the Vortech is positioned 3 inches below the surface of the water. Don't wish to go lower due to rockwork being built up fairly high.

Placing the solid portion up will help to prevent a vortex from occurring. We have also found that placing the solid portion down can make it easier to make waves in some aquariums. It can also help to prevent as much sand from accumulating below the pump.
