has anyone here ever done the excersion dive in the georgia aquarium with the whale sharks, just curious

We (SeaJay & his crew) were hoping to get a COMP'd dive in while we were working at the aquarium in November and December, but it never happened... It is a very short "lemming dive" where everyone stays withing 5' of each other at all times, never gets to touch an animal, etc. though it would be really neat to have them swimming overhead.

I actually thought it as $325, so at least it's not too horrible. $225 would get you a 3-tank dive on Nitrox at Bonne Terre though. ;)

true but im still a rookie diver that only has his checkout dives under his belt, diving is cool but surfing is my maiin passion

Well then let's get together and do some diving dammit!!! :bounce1:

You do realize that I'm just across the creek and up the street from you, DON'T YOU..? ;)

see I would but I have no gear whats so ever lol kinda waaay out of my budget at this time since ive enrolled back in college

What gear do you have..? If you at least have the basics (mask, fins & booties) then I could probably help to get you diving over here with us. ;)

thats basicly all i have, when i lived in destin there just wasnt any good places to dive at all so im about for years out of practice and need to reup my cert and get a new card since my wallet was stolen

like i said its been awhile but man a dive would be nice, i feel so disconnected from the ocean right now, which is the only place I feel at home, that Im about to go crazy

You may want to SERIOUSLY take a look at a HOG reg setup, because you can get into a full set like I did for under $600... Substantially less even if you use standard hoses rather than the Miflex hoses that I bought.

2 HOG senond stage regs
1 HOG D1-COLD first stage
1 HOG 2" SPG

I was able to do it last summer, and it was pretty cool. Luckily I work for another public aquarium, so it was comp'd, but if you're going to shell out the money, I'd opt for a more legit open water dive in Cozumel or the like to see them in the wild. Actually, the great hammerheads and bow mouth guitarfish are WAY cooler than the whale sharks (actually spent about 10 minutes watching their large hammerhead chase down a cow nose ray breakfast -- WOW are they fast and agile!). The whale sharks just swim around, and if one runs into you, it's gonna hurt (they don't swim around you). Granted, you just don't see fish this size too often.
