What a forum...

No I don't have a Reef system.
Yes I have been a lurker on this forum for a few years, but since I don't have a reef system, I really didn't have anything to offer posting wise.
Yes I support the same local stores you support.
And, I have been into aquariums for ~40 years now, Salt water for ~20 years, and brackish about 2 years before the salt.
It's a shame that when another aquarist asks for ADVISE on pricing a system that could benefit a REEF aquarist (or any aquarist), the posting gets scrubbed.
I guess the 1-4 posts per day are too overwhelming...:rolleye1:

I am not a local on this forum, but I am a visitor, as i am from Knoxville originally. I saw the posting you are speaking of, and there are a few rules on R/C about selling in local forums.

1) You must have been a member for more the 90 days before posting items for sale.

2) You have to have more than 50 posts before listing items for sale.

I cannot remember if he was a member or had the appropriate number of posts, but it would not have been the people here who removed his post, it would have been a moderator.

The person who made the post also received a note telling them why it was removed. It's not that big a deal, really. And he could always have someone sell it for him/her. Or just hang around for awhile and that would work as well.

Hang around for awhile? I've been registered since 2005, and looked around as "guest" before that, so the 90 day rule is more than covered.
Since I'm a "fish-only" aquarist, I don't have any advise to offer posting-wise on a reef forum (especially since my attempt at a mini-reef failed back in 1994, and if this forum exisited back then, I didn't know about it), therefore my posting count is only in the low teens.
Anyway, now I know the rules....I just don't agree with them for such a small forum community.

We have no control over which threads/posts get scrubbed... I would encourage you to participate more so that you can eventually post items for sale... I understand that you have been around since 2005 but the rules are that you have to actively participate on RC in order to post items for sale here...

If you would like you can attend our meeting at the Coral Reef this month and mention any items you are interested in selling...

I was actually replying to your post today that per Rc rules you may get your thread removed and to not be offended that they were pretty strict on the 50 count rule. I also wrote your grouper was very handsome ;), but when I hit the reply button it just went to the not able to acess this page deal and your thread mysteriously was gone.... I figured I was right and it got scrubbed then I saw this thread with you being down on the actual club.

I know you may be upset but the mods probably thought because you have obviously been in the hobby of keeping fish (be it salt or fresh) per your own hobby experience description for 35 years the mods figured you knew what a used system went for typically and were just trying to cheat the rules by throwing the system out there as a question but still having it on RC for all to see and know you were a seller :). It was working because you got a bite on the 15 tall but rules are rules if we like em or not. Sorry you got your feathers ruffled but I saw you knew Mel and some others in the past and know it is a good club.

Good luck with the sell. To repeat what I tried to post earlier...
Typically most folks like to get at least 60% of retail for used equipment depending on the type it isand condition. What I did was itemized everything in my system and looked up retail on it or what I had in it and asked 48% of that as a compleat set up but I really wanted to move it since we had sold our house. I was just glad someone local was in the market for a bigger tank. Then I warned you about the modds and told you your fish was a beauty... But I really do hope you find a good home for the tank and fish. I have freinds who had great luck selling tanks for a lot more cash to unexperienced fish keepers on craigslist.

He does? Who is it? I'd be interested to know.

TnVTX: I'm not in the business of making *nice nice* when people complain about the club, but I do think you have the wrong impression of us.

We might mention that you need to have a certain number of posts before you sell stuff but that's just because that type of thread has been removed so many times, we don't want you to be surprised about it.

No one is trying to exclude you...in fact, if you actually show up to a meeting, then you will see that people are quite friendly...high post count or not.

But whatever...do what you want.

Okay, now that my ruffled feathers have been groomed back down.;) I would like to apologize to the forum members.
Since obviously asking about a set price was the wrong tactic, the percentage thing will work instead...
Since I had this Oceanic system since 1993. I just have not kept up with pricing of used systems (or new ones).
I figured that 50% of what I paid for it was a pipe dream, but, maybe not?

(But, now I'm begining to have second thoughts about selling the setup anyway, which is really embarrassing after showing my butt...:hmm2: )
What to do...what to do.....:spin2:

What to do is to get your thread count up! LOL SO if you do decide to sell, you don't get the thread pulled.

I saw this in his past posting history Mel and just took it for granted he knew you personally from his language But then I went back and looked and the post on that thread I was looking at was from **TriMax** not Tnvix... Dugggh.

"I have a bucket that you can buy for what I paid, $35. If I ever get started again I will need to replace it and several of the ones I sold to Charles. But for now, that is not happening.

Mel, if it is ok with you and if it can be picked up this weekend at the meeting, I will bring the bucket to you.

I will PM Kevin and Mel with my cell phone #. Call if you want it delivered to Mel this evening, Thursday, 16th.

Eddie"

Sorry if I gave you freinds you didn't even know you had :). And congrats on the new I phones!! Oh, I mean engagement ;) I am glad for you guys!

Tnvix, If you have had tanks that long you would be lost without one! That is a pretty nice looking set up. I can't belive its that old and looks that good. You must take good care of your tanks or those were old pics!

Angela...ooooh! I was wondering if he was someone we knew previously that had reregistered under a different name or maybe just one I had forgotten. Thanks for clearing it up.

I agree with these guys...my interest in my tank ebs and flows. I was recently considering selling off my tank and Randy reminded me how sad I was without one and how happy I was when I won the one I did. So think about how you'd miss it and then decide if you really want to part with it.

I ended up deciding that I really don't want to get "rid" of my tank. I love all my little fishies and they are doing really well. Now if I only had some of my EMGS zoas back!

I would rethink those EMGZ Mel.... In your size tank they would cover all the rock in no time  Seriously I can not belive you don't have a start of them back, they are one of my favorite easy to keep zoas. I bet the tank looks great and I wouldn't get rid of it since its so easy to move around. But I have to admit, not having to worry about a tank the past few months has been kinda nice.

Angela...I've decided that that's what I want...a whole tank with only EMGS zoas. hah hah.
