what a mess.!!!!

If any one has any greivences over my montiporas from the swap please send me a PM. I'll try to make it up to you if posible.

I had no clue that my entire tank was going to crash. Everything appeared normal sunday morning when I fraged. or I would not have risked fraging. wensday I pulled 7.25lbs (several years growth)of dead coral skelaton out out my tank. When I get back home tomorow I expect that the rest will all be dead as well. when I left last night the acros. were not looking so good.

This reef was at its prime just prior to the swap. I did not knowingly sell/trade bum corals. That is the last thing I would do.

sorry, Steve

Im not worried about it, just glad i dipped everything in the Tropic marin dip so if it was something bad that could spread I stopped it.

It happens

me too, I hate to think that I might have passed something around at the swap. this sucks!!!!!! It is probably fortunate that the montipora frags seem to have died prior to people adding them to their tanks. I feel as if I have the reef plague in my livingroom.
Steve,

If any thing look salvageable When I return tomorow, maby I can try to treat them? Anyone Know what I can use as a treatment dip? I can set up a temporary recovery tank. the only store that I may be able to get to is wet pets. I have some iodine supliment?? any dosage idias for a dip?

thanks,

I am assuming that you have ammonia, nitrites, etc....

The only thing you can do are water changes, and lots of them. I had a serpent star die a few months ago, and sent everything out of wack. I lost all of my acros and through water changes I was able to save most other things - it took about a month of 50% water changes almost every day.

I have no ammonia test but started using amo-lock monday to keep it from being "as" toxic. Nitrites and Nitrates were off the chart high sunday, but are below detectable limits this evening. (one of the benifits to a fully functional properly mantaned dsb and an awesome skimmer) I just could not pull the water quality in line fast enough for the acros. to make it.

My next hurdle is to save the few lps corals.

On the plus side so far all of the fish are ok. As are the leathers, Btas, zoas, a T.max. clam,a gorgonia, and most of the cleanup critters.
Time and big waterchanges can fix most reef problems.
Steve,

Major bummer!!!!!!! Just consider the money we gave you for the frag pack as a donation from NORA to help get you going again. I know its not much but its something. Once these acros get big enough to frag then I will get you some to help replace what you lost.

Hey i have some encrustion Monti in maroon, i can offer a frag to you, and i have TONS of macro if you need it to repopulate your refugium. Sorry to hear about your loss, I just moved all my LPS stuff to my new prop system, so i really have no great frags to help you out right now, but in about 3 months, i can help you get back up and going with some nice frags. ALso if you need water that is spot on, i can take 40-50 gallons out of my big system if you need it. I always run that system with about 100 extra gallons incase i need water fast for my other systems, the bigger the system the easier to maintain, so in my 675, i have a 300 gallon sump that i with it about 2/3 full so i have extra EXCELLENT water if it will help you out.

Dublin, thanks for understanding. Did the acropora frags make it ok for you?

Mercedes216, thanks for the offer I may take you up on a frag in a couple of mounths when every thing settles in. For now I'm just going to let the tank recover. I've ben stockpiling equipment to add a basement sump/fuge to the system to help with stability. my current setup consists of a 70gal reef with a 35 gal sump/fuge. The new basement system will add 3- 40 gallon tubs as my sump/fuge and a 75 gal. tank for frags. Going from 105gal system to 270 gal should help a bit with stability. For the past year I've had a verry dificult time keeping enough calcium/alk for the sps. my thinking was that adding volume would help. Your tank must be impressive at 675. I'm not shure my livingroom is that big. Please post some pics for everyone to drool over. lol
Steve,

Steve all acros and montiporas that I got from you are gone... they didn't make it through the first day in my frag tank. I am not upset. I know you didn't intentionally sell dying items. The BTA must've been very stressed either right before bagging or from the move to my tank because it split and I now have 2 BTAs there. Neither of them will take food but it has only been a few days since they split. I hope they both live for me.

Hope you get your tank in order and save what you can. I hate to hear stories like this.

Kevin, I've herd from most of the people that I know got acros from me at and just prior to the swap, and most did ok. sorry to hear yours did not make it. Btas can and will split from stress that particular nem was a clone that had not split for over 2 years and was ready to do so soon. I'd feed them 1-2 times a week with, good quality raw table shrimp from the grocery store as well as pices of silversides of other ocean fish. Starting as soon as they will accept food. From experience they are more likely to take to the shrimp first. In my tank the nems stay near the bottom in the rockwork (rember though I have 400w 10K xm lighting in a 70 gallon tank(verry high light)they may need to be closer to your lights then they were in my tank. If they are not happy lighting or watermovent wise they can and will wonder arount your tank. If and when they wonder they will sting and harm/kill corals as they contact them so be carefull with your selected placement. also cover all pumps intakes well, this is possibly the #1 nem killer. these are manny generations captive bred btas and are as hardy as nems get. When I added them to my tank I was lucky and they liked their placement. The only wondering I've had is after spliting.
Good luck with your btas. I am asuming your soft coral frags made it? and you only lost the sps.

As for my tank most of the fish, snails, leathers, btas and zoas are still with me. All shrimp, serpent star, britlestars, urchen, crabs, sps, lps, and xinia are completly lost. My water quality is still shaky but geting better. I think the death and destruction are done with.(knock on wood)
