...how how do I join your club
Hi Jim,

There isn't really any formal organization at the moment. When the club first started (3 years ago), there was an initial group that paid membership dues and met once a month for a year. After that, I became President and the meetings continued, but new local saltwater enthusiasts were few and far between. There was a handful of us that kept it going, but it came down to only several people that regularly attended meetings. Now that Fewells has been established as the hub of saltwater in Springfield, hobbists are getting connected and the interest in the club is reviving. The problem is, I have been the President longer than I care to and none of the original members want to take my place (anyone? :)).

So, at our last meeting (frag swap in December) we decided to continue meeting for frag swaps at Fewells and plan future meetings as a "collective" if there is interest. We used to go to each others house and check out individual tanks, which was fun......maybe we will start to do that again now that there is more people involved. It is inspiring to see other peoples tanks and you learn a lot by seeing how they are set up. If people continue to stay in touch on here and come to the frag swaps, there is a potential to have a strong club again.

Basically, the idea of the club is still active and so are a few of the original members, but we need more people who want to participate on a regular basis.

Well, if you no longer wish to be President I nominate Dave Whitham, but I do not know if he was an original member, so I don't know if that will fly or not.

I wouldn't mind helping out, I can do some website stuff, forum stuff, organizing some things, things like that. Let me know. I was thinking about trying to talk with the St. Louis area reef club and see if maybe they will help us out a little. They have some cool stuff they do including a mentor program for new people to the hobby which I believe is a good idea. My brother is a member I believe and I was going to see if we could steal some ideas from them. They also have a nicely done orginization to keep things up and running, including a President, VP, treasurer, Officers, etc. Which May help out the SEAS club..

Just some ideas, take them for what they are worth.

President's are just there as a figure head anyway; for someone to goto and complain, or to make a final decision, you get other people to do all the work for you. ;) (not saying John doesn't do anything) I am saying if we get more people involved and then the "President" won't be stuck with all the work to do or organizing everything.

I'll send an email out to the members and see if anyone wants the position. If not, I'll see if they want to nominate someone from outside of the original membership.

I'll try to do my part by actually making it to activities and helping if you all need it. My son is older now, so he is much easier to leave with Grandma.

Also, I just had a rep call from the Newsleader. I need to meet with a photographer next week for a photo op. Want me to suggest they do an article featuring SEAS?

I was once interested in the SEAS presidency position - but John Kelly mentioned that to have access to the SEAS treasury (to put your name on), you could possibly have some sort of tax issues - because it's a not-for-profit thing or whatever... and I must admit that being scrutinized by the IRS is something I'd like to avoid :bum:
I do think that there is definitely enough interest for the SEAS to do monthly meetings again. I would love to see some SEAS DIY food, DIY skimmer, and DIY moonlight workshops...
I would like to have some sort of official position within the group. I'm sure 'ol RedSeaPurpleTang would be glad to provide all the group's bylaws and yackitty-schmackitty - he was all anal and stuff... I'm sure he could be a few clicks away from them.
The last option could be that we could all start a new group. I think that could be kinda easy - but I think it'd be silly to start over when there's a great group already kickin'.

That is for the treasurer (currently Julia)

President Steve? I'll send out an email to see if there is anyone within the group who wants to be pres. If there is, then we would need to vote on it. That is the way it works.

No reason to.

You should file for an TIN number if the club does not have one already. That would take care of the situation as far as taxes go. I can help if you guys are interested. Sounds like the club is gathering some more interest of late.

TIN = Tax ID?
If that's all an individual needs to transfer, there should be a bylaw added (if there isn't one) that makes it so that "the ADDITIONAL fees for tax preparation for the treasurer position are to be withdrawn from the group treasure"
or somesuch shizzle
:smokin:
I will announce my plans to run for pres here - the plans to appear on Neil Boortz fell through :bum:
I SoupySteve declare I'd like to be pres...

Email sent to members.

The lady who interviewed me and met us at the park for pictures was very, very nice. I pitched the idea and will mention it again when I call to find out when the piece will run. ;)

If someone prefers to pitch the idea from the presidency, just pm me and I'll pass on name/phone number. :)

WELCOME Steve!!!!!

This is a good place to learn and meet local reefers (at least the fish tank variety!)

I think you can accomplish your goal if you don't acquire any "high maintenance" fish or corals. Those would require daily care and attention.

Kb0hvy -

How is the drum workin' out for you? I'm going to look at the windshield washer pumps at work soon as you suggested for a switchable pump - brilliant idea!

Like LargeJohn said above, and I think most of our remaining members would agree, the $20 in membership fees was the best $20 I've plopped down for my tank! As a group we helped each other out by giving *gasp* corals to newbies... i think we even once had a ANYTHING reef-related swap It's always fun to check out other people's systems and talk-shop.
LargeJohn - I wouldn't consider myself a liberal, but these days it seems that unless you're kissing the ground team Cheney, Rove and Co. walk on you're labeled a "lefty"... :shakes fists:
