What about this filter ???

I just set up a new Nano-Cube 6G and I have some questions as to what things are on the filter.

-Is what comes stock with the filter ok or should it be modified?

-What do the bio-balls do, I thought the ceramic rings are for bio-colonies. The bio-balls seem to just float above the carbon bag?

The Bio-Balls are a method of filtration. I know some people take them out because they collect nitrates. You might want to try posting this in
The Nano Forum for more answers.

I would remove the filter media, except for carbon, and depend on live rock for filtration. I don't know much about that exact product, so I can't comment much on why they chose the media in there. They might just be there to help break up large chunks of detritus.

Get 6 pounds of live rock and give the bioballs to the cats to play with.
