What about this for a skimmer replacement pump?

Hi everyone. I have a Sea Life Sea Storm 250 (it ha been a great skimmer for my tank). It used from factory a Catalina 3000 (1000 G/H) pump. The ventury valve is on the presure side after the pump outlet. I replaced the pump (when it went bad) with a Hydor Seltz L40 (750 +/- G/H). Well, I don't get the same results as I expected though I don't want to use a Catalina pump again since mine was a second Catalina and it is a really bad pump. I was wondering if I could use a Maxi-Jet 1200 for this purpose? Would it work in this type of configuration? Thanks for any help!

Hi tkeracer619. Thanks for your response. Well I thought so. I just have my doubt on this: the reason of my question is due to the fact that this little pump (mj 1200) states this

295 gph in power head mode. 1,300 gph in circulation mode.
Max head: 70 inches
Connections: 3/4" ID hose fits inlet / 1/2" ID hose fits outlet
20 Watts

And therefore I thought it may work. But when I saw the design of it I decided to do some research onlie. Could you explain me the difference between "circulation mode" and "powerhead mode"?. Thanks pal!
