Just got two small clowns. They don't seem to be eating. What and when should I be feeding them? Any help is appreciated. New tank set up. First set of fish in tank. Also new to hobby. Definitely don't want my first fish to die.

What were they eating prior to you bringing them home? What food choices did you get for them? Did you properly setup and cycle your tank for them. What is your sg and the rest of your water parameters?

Most all clowns will eat mysis shrimp, a good quality pellet is good as well. Some can get them to eat flakes but mine don't. Also there are some good frozen mixes that are available that most fish love LRS is one of them.

Parameters are excellent. Tank cycled. Sg is 1.022. They were fed frozen mysis but said they should adapt to flakes since they were so young?

I feed mine a mix of nls pellets, flake, and frozen mysis. They should adapt to dry foods but you should slowly ween them off mysis till they start takeing the dry foods

I feed mine Spirulina Brine Shrimp. I tried Mysis but the pieces were too big for the small clowns. They would go after it and then drop it. They haven't taken to pellets yet either.

Most all of them will eat mysis shrimp. I take the frozen squares and chop them up frozen then defrost so they are now smaller pieces and the larger pieces will get eaten by the larger fish

The standard (small) NLS 1 mm pellets are to big for most of the young clownfish you will find. NLS makes a .05 mm that they will gobble up, but only come in a large jar I think but they are most certainly hard to find. You can take the 1 mm pellets and grind them up in one of the plastic pepper grinders that you can pick up in the grocery store full of pepper corns. You can pull the top off but it takes some doing, then fill it with the 1 mm pellets and grid them on the water surface. Trust me they will eat these pellets and with gusto! My smaller male taught me this..

A small jar of 1 mm pellets will last you several months so in the long run isn't very expensive.

I don't have any fish in my tank that will touch the flakes so I've got a large full jar I'll make a good deal on if someone wants to pm me.

My clowns won't touch the pellets even the smallest ones. But I don't know why I didn't think about shaving pieces of the frozen Mysis. Thanks.
