what are luminarc III's capable of?

just wondering how much real coverage a LAIII can cover. ive heard they can cover a 3ft wide tank from front to back easily. ive heard they are capable of even more. but then ive heard of people only using them to cover tanks 2ft wide tanks. so whats its max limit? i dont have any first hand experience with them and want to know thier true capabilitys before i spend the money.

I have two, 1 at each end of my 6' 180 tank and it lights the entire tank & then some. I am very impressed by them.

I use 3 on a 10x3x2h

I personally think it's all I need.

They and the SLS Lumenmax I believe were originally designed for 4x4, but also for 1000w I'm pretty sure.

That being said, there's a tendency probably towards lighting overkill in the hobby....

Will it be ok to use 2 with 175w over a mixed reef and clams 6' tank?

Are 2 x 175w not enough light (160w T5 will be on there too)?

Thanks!

kewlworm how deep is your tank?

Xdusty if you want to stop by and check mine out let me know.

Uhm, a consideration is the 18" front to back...last I checked my LAIIIs are wider than that front to back....

With a tank that narrow, you might be better with a more focused output setup....

very good point you also need to make sure you'll have room for the sockets that add another 4-5 inches

I was looking at that on the website and they only have one size. I guess back to parabolic reflector for me. :(

Thanks guys!

Or a lumenarc mini.

ok if i had a 4 ft wide tank would a single row of 400w mh's with LAIII's be sufficient to keep lps (challices fungia etc) on the bottum of a near the glass? or would the light fall off so much towards the glass panel, i wouldnt be able to keep lps alive that far out?
id like to go with a single row obviously if i can. but im just gonna grab cheaper reflectors if i have to go double rows. but hopefully i get some "yeses" from you guys that the LAIII's are good enough to spread light out that much.
szwab- id love to stop out and check them out in person. unfortunately work is extrememly demanding right now. but in the fall things will start slowing down and the tank project will start then. if the offers still open, i might take you up on that then.
thank you for the offer.

I think it'd probably be fine.
