What are some of the effects of cyano on sps

The reason i asked is because I have some brown cyna which is a step away from becoming red cyano. It has the classic signs of bubbles forming in the brown sludge. Lately it has settle down just a bit. My water is crystal clear, some HA but not a whole lot. Just little clumps here and there. Nitrate <5ppm.
Can someone tell me if the presence of cyna is detrimental to sps?

Cyano it self I dont see a problem unless it starts growing on the coral.

But the other thing that would concern me is you have excessive nutrients in your tank to cause the cyano.

Just stop feeding the tank totally for 5 days or so, it usually will go right away. Make sure you have some new gfo. I think cyano is more due to suspended particles than anything.

to me cyano would be the ultimate cheato to put in a sump
it absorbs nutrients faster than cheato, the problem would be controlling it and keeping it only in the sump.
other than that leave it be
it will starve it's self out in time

IDK what's the deal with my tank. I use RO unit for drinking but for some reasons when i tested it with a tds meter it show a reading of 10ppm. The unit is barely 6 months old and hardly been put to use. Anyways, I don't feed that much so I dont know where's all the nutrient came from. I have 0 phosphate using salifert test kit.

Did you buy the RO/DI new or used?

I wouldnt drink that water as your stripping everything that is useful for our bodies.

If you have cyano, you have phosphates. They are just being used up by the cyano.

The ro membrane may not be seated fully or it may need to be replaced. I get 1-0 tds out of just my ro. Di is always zero.
And if you can, you should always drink ro water. You don't want the crap that's in your water in your body.

I have it on my rocks, no issue. Its ugly but wont cause harm. Phosphates feed it and cyano can be present even with very little P04. You can do a lights out period(i choose not to), i would suggest using more GFO and changing it out more frequently. Alot of very nice tanks have it and dont stress over it. Its one of those things you try to win the battle with the bacteria and it will take time. Siphoning out is also a very good call

Cyano is having a HUGE impact on my corals right now... I just finished 3 days lights out, I have GFO 15-20% water changes weekly and I've been battling with it for 2 mths...

I am by no means an expert of even an advanced SPS keeper but I think that there is something going on in your tank that needs a more advanced approach. It looks like Bubble Algae, Cyano and others have taken over your system.

What are your test results showing???

Are you skimming?
Lighting age?
Filtration?

I agree, I don't understand what would be in Ro that you shouldn't drink. The bad stuff in our city water is really amazing.

Parameters are great, phosphates almost 0, nitrates, nitrites, ammonia 0, need new tests for other params (just noticed they're expired)

Skimming with a Tunze 9005, just switched to 2 250w xm20000k and 2 t5 actinics so new bulbs maybe 2 months, have a sump/ fuge/ deep sandbed, running GFO and carbon filtration.

The bubbles started when I added 2 HUGE pieces of DIY from a store and didn't rinse them properly enough. It took over those rocks and then spread. Emerald crabs kept dying even though params were good and wide variation of acclimation. The LFS switched to a new supplier and the last 4 that I put in have been there 3 months and actually making a dent in it.

Only other thing in there is cyano.

I did a 30gal wc, changed the gfo and carbon media, cleaned pumps and skimmer and (since I'm a tad sick of this) I scrapped the heck out of everything with bubble and cyano on it before doing the water change. I know, I know bursting the bubbles could make it worse... But if pratically every surface has it and it's choking things I'm to the point I'll take the chance ;)
