and do they grow back if say one were slightly damaged?

antennal scales. i do not believe they grow back if damaged badly or removed completely (could be wrong). They do recover from slight damage.

Seems like I just read a post about someone's mantis who completely regrew a scale in a single molt... but of course I can't find it now that I'm looking...

greg, actually i believe that the post you reefer to concerned an antenna, but like you i cant find the damn post either. sigh. such is the harsh reality of RC. forget one thing in a specific post and it's gone forever... at least until you dont need it anymore.

no i didnt take that picture. i just googled it. his antennal scale is torn at the tip straight across. i was wondering if it will ever fully regenerate.
