Can anyone id what these are that i am finding in my tank? Last night they were all over the front glass and sand. Now i am only seeing them on the sand is all. They are almost square and thin and a light brownish orange. I tried to get the best shot i could but im not a camera guru and not able to take the best pics. Can anyone help?

Aceol Flatworms. They are photosynthetic, feed off of nutrients in the tank, and unfortunately reproduce via fission so their populations can explode quickly.

You'll want to siphon up as many as possible and make sure your nutrients aren't too high. A good water change with phosphate free RO/DI water is recommended.

If the population comes back with a vengeance, you'll want Salifert Flatworm Exit. (It's the only chemical that I'll put in my tank).

This might be helpful too. http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/may2002/short.htm

hmmm ........first time i have ever seen these in any of our 3 tanks. you are right these exploded practically overnight and are in abundance in the tank. I have also been without a skimmer for a week now due to my pump going out. Possibly not helping the matter at all ... eh? Although i have been doing 15% water changes every other day. Guess i better get a new pump and bump up the changes! Thanks

The only way I have been able to get rid of them is the the Flatworm Exit from Salifert. after the first dose, and I didn't see anything, but did a sec dose just to play it save. It's been probably a year now, and have not seen one since. Make sure to follow the direction.

Siphon them ut for two days before you dose FWE.
FWE is the only way to get rid of them for good.
You can reduce your photoperiod and that will starve them a bit.

My Christmas wrasse cleaned out all of my red flatworms in a week. There are a couple of types of wrasses that will eat them too. You need a sand substrate for the Christmas wrasse.
