What are your thoughts on yellowhead jawfish?

I like to keep mine in a nice marinade for an hour or so instead of sand.....oh wait wrong kinda fish :)

They are neat fish! I know they will make tunnels under rocks but I doubt you could call them sand sifters per se.
Then again in a smallish tank any sifting will help some I guess.

They will shift the sand around while making a burrow but that is about it. Stick to cerith and nassarius snails along with a conch and your sand will be pristine.

They are the coolest!! They dig little caves in the sand or under rocks. It is very neat how they shore up the opening, and sometimes close it at night.

They are jumpers, beware.

This is the one and only time this guy ever did this, usually they hang out in their holes with their heads poking out.

Son has one in his tank and they will stir the sand but generally just where they dig their burrows at and tunnels. They have a great personality but stay close to their tunnels. Sons took awhile before he would stay out more when feeding and the like. In the beginning he would dart out and grab a bit of food and then back in his hole. They will redistribute your sand to their liking and not yours in their tunneling :(
