What are your thoughts?

I just bought a 220 used tank. To make a long story short I did not like the way it was set up. So for a SPS tank would you go with an Oceans Motions or a Tunze Wavebox?

Thanks,
Pam

Hi Pam-
I'm surprised this has gone this long without a response.

I have used OM and like the product. I have not used the Tunze. Why not consider an OM to get started and add a wavebox down the road. That way, you could have chaotic flow during the day with both and less chaotic, but random flow, at night with just the OM in operation.

Thanks for the response! I'm shocked that you are the only one out there with an opinion! I was actually leaning towards the OM, my only concern was setting it up myself. Don't know how difficult they are.

how are you going to plumb the closed loop system. is it from the top, bottom or sides? Then are you going BB or sand? If you are going sand plumb it from the sides or top. from the bottom you need to be carefull of sand getting into your pump and affecting the OM. I have an OM 4 way and it is turned off at this point because of the sand. I also have a tunze 6000. I like it but it is so big in the tank. My next tank I will use the vortec. they are smaller and have a battery back up. pros on tunze or vortec is that you can move them around as your corals grow. good luck

Thanks a lot . I was thinking about trying to drill the tank myself. I've heard it's more intimidating than difficult. If I did this I would drill the back walls not the bottom because I do plan on having sand. The Tunze is big I've not looked into the Vortec (now you've confused me more!)

I have a closed loop on my BB tank and its cool but the flow is too direct.

I would go with tunze PH and wavebox if I had the chance to do it over again.

Good point.

your tank is 220 so thats alot of room and direct flow wouldn't be an issue. i have 2 OM 4-way V3 and random flow is great. total 8 holes 4 of them front and 4 in the rear. hope this helps, btw how do you plan on drilling the holes for glass tank. thats if you do CL
