title says it all. what blennies will NOT attack a clam? last blenny i had tried to kill my clams and i never tried to keep a blenny again since. i still have 1 clam but would like to consider adding another blenny if possible but i need to be 100% possative it will not try to eat my clam.

I've had lawnmower blennies with clams several times, no issues.

Maybe it would help this thread if you told us what species of blenny you had a problem with?

the last blenny i had was a bicolor black/yellow... he was fine with the first clam and when i added the second clam he decided to start munching on them. had it for months with no issues until i added the second clam.

My experience has been that a well fed fish that does not typically snack on clams in the wild and has their natural food source (i.e., algae for lawnmower blennies) available should not snack on clams in captivity...

Perhaps best not to add another blenny. That's my motto now...

I had a black sailfin blenny who eventually decided to nip clam mantles and pretty much all my SPS. Seemed to do it obsessively. And yes, doubters, this was observed, not assumed, and the fish was a voracious eater. He nearly killed both croceas and a couple of LE frags before I trapped and removed the bugger.

i was thinking about possibly just not adding one at all. but i do like them and figured maybe there was one that was well known not to eat clams. it might be best for me to just not try them again while i have clams.

my algae blenny doesn't mess with my 3 clams.

algae blennies are pretty cool. only problem with them is i always thought they had to have algae in the tank so they could graze. my tank is pretty algae free since i try to run a low nutrient system now.
