what brand of sump pump???

okay, i'm finally really getting the urge to get my 150g up and running. i'm trying to get everything i need together or on order. i got it drilled this weekend (thanks again Matt 'MBryant' on rc), going to pick up silicone to reseal this week (thanks Ed), and picking up about 45lbs of marco rock tomorrow to start cycling for eventual addition to existing rock.

since i'm going to do it right this time and put in a sump, i need to start looking for a return pump. i was just wanting some feedback on what everyone else is using or has used. what is good? what is a piece of crap? noise issues etc.

i am going with a wet sump. of course i want the best bang for buck, but need to try and keep it under $150 so i can buy the rest of my equipment on an extremly tight budget. i figure i need over 1200 gph pump to have enough head pressure at 5.5 feet up.

also, does anyone have one just collecting dust that they want to sell?

I use quiet one pumps for my return. I would like to use mag drives but cost a little bit more.

I use an Iwaki for my downdraft skimmer and it's T'd off for my return. I used to use a quiet one, but I would recommend a external if you can. It's a lot less maintenance. It always starts after a power interruption. Also you can tee off of it again later to add other stuff like reactors and such.

Cory. I bought my mag drive "pond master" pump p line for around 70$ but it's a mag 7. You need a mag 12 which will cost you around 119$ online

I just got rid of my large external pump and went with a waterblaster hy-5000 internal on my 150. It dropped the temp in the tank and is just right flow for return, plus low electric use. I use other pumps in the tank for circulation.

I've had good luck with our Mag pumps. Sound from vibration can be an issue but is easily solved by putting it on a pad or baggy full of sand.

This is the pump i use on my 90g and i have to T about 1/2 of it back to the sump. It would be perfect for a 150g. It pushes every ounce it says it does. It sits behind my couch and you would never know it was there. External pumps are so much easier for up keep too.

I'm using an Iwaki 40 high head and it's perfect for the my 150. I run a mag 9.5 on my 65gl but dial it back. I've had good luck with the mag pumps but they put off a lot of heat IMO so I decided to go external on this build.
