What Brand Phosphate

I'm Needing to run some type of phosphate remover.. I'm starting to get Hair Algae. I have not had that in 5 years, and that was a battle in a half..

Figures though... Have had no Algae problems at all, until I got the new RO/DI unit (TDS is 0 too) and did two 50 gallon water changes.

I have used both Pura and PhosBan and noticed no difference between them. Either will work fine.

is it large Media or real fine? I have never ran PhosePhate.

Rich tried running some last week and when he started using it, it lowered his PH down to 7.8? Should that happen?

has anything else changed in your tank or routines lately to increase phosphates:
flow changes
feeding amount and techniques
less frequent water changes
harvested the cheato lately??

I used the generic phosphate remover from twopartsolution.com and it knocked mine out in about a month, it was half the price of Phosban. I never used Phosban so I cant say one is better than the other. They claim it is the same stuff though.

Water flow no change, power heads do need a cleaning, so that could slow it up a little.

Have not changed anything. I don't feed a lot. 2-3 times a week

More Water Changes, now than ever.

Harvested the Cheato 2 weeks ago.

kind of figured you would have with your experience;)

I have had an increase in nuisance algae on the glass recently--all I can attribute it to is that sunrise has been getting later in the day and I have been feeding the fish in the dark before I go to work. Sone of them still sleeping/and or sluggish metabolism rates
I am sure this caused an increase in phosphates via uneaten food.
For the last few days I have not been feeding in the morning and the nuisance algae has almost cleared up when I come home.
I don't know if this could be a problem or not for you--just threw it out for everyone:smokin:

except for the nuisance algae mentioned above--cyano and algae has been almost none existant since I went to this setup:
The carbon I run for 2-3 weeks, the phoban lasts for 2-3 months.

The thing that gets me is I had none of the issues till after I changed My RO/DI, and Harvest my Cheeto.

Are you running 1 pump on both reactors?

two separate pumps

what is your sump refugium setup like--can you post a pic.
Common reef sense ---you have to have phosphates coming from somewhere to fuel that algae.

I am also brainstorming here----do you have deep sand beds and for how long have they been established.

the best phosphate remover is warner marine phoSar HC. It has to be the HC one. It is amazingly stronger than regular gfo
