What can I use to prevent my fish from stealing food from my Ricordias?

feed the fish first. Then use a feeder pole of some sort to keep the fish away, just jab at them, they will flee.

LOL... my fish leaves my ricordeas' food alone.. but my blue leg hermit crabs are relentless little jerks! I use my 10 inch forceps to pick them up and toss them across the tank. It's actually pretty fun... like a really slow version of that arcade game in Chuck E. Cheese where the alligators come out of a cave and you bash them in the head with a mallet. Good times.

yeah I had the same problem with my fireshrimp. he would pull food out of me rics' mouths as they were swallowing. Now I just give him his own big piece of food first. then I just have to stand guard with 12 inch tweezers while the rics eat sloooooooowly!

As far as I know (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) in natural settings rics don't generally have large meaty food fall on their "lap" like that, and if that did happen it would likely be stolen just like in our tanks. Instead, rics eat small bits of organic waste and plankton that land on them or that they catch with mucus nets. Rics mostly survive through their symbiotic arrangement with the photosynthetic zooanthellae in their tentacles and oral disc.

Merry Xmas eve to everyone that celebrates it and happy holidays to everyone else!
