what causes HARD substrate?

Ive been getting sections of clumped together aragonite in my larger tank for the past few months. I have never had a problem in my smaller tank and have no "sand sifting" creatures in either. The clumps are very hard to break apart... any suggestions? Should I leave it? Should I break them up?

If I need sand sifting fish or such, are there any that will be safe with damsels, a royal gramma, and a fire clown?

Clumping is usually caused by over doing it with the kalk and or 2 part additives. What are your pH, Ca, Alk, and Mg levels?
