What cleaners should i get?!

Hello everyone.

I have an 8.5 gal tank... I have been doing research and a lot of people suggest buying cleaning crews to get rid of algae and left over food.

Now for such a small tank like mine, how many hermits should i get? I currently have: 1 true seaba clown, 1 yellow tip damsel (the small peaceful one) and a 2" slug.
So how many hermit crabs can i get? And i see tons of hermit crabs around the beach next to my house, can i just get them from the beach? Instead of buying them from my lfs (that probably doesnt even have them)?

Thanks!!

How big are those hermit crabs? Big crabs eat fish. I would just get them from the store I don't know why your store wouldn't have them.

I mean I guess you could put a few. I would just do 2 or something. Not sure how ethical it is to take from the beach or if there are laws where you live about that though

There are thousands upon thousands of them. So its okay, its not illegal or anything. Im just worried if they'll live or die?

Just because there are "thousands and thousands of them" doesn't mean it might still be illegal! Here in Lee county of SW Florida taking ANY live animal in a shell, even hermit crabs, and even with a proper saltwater fishing license which is required to collect anything live, is illegal. And the fines are stiff!

Dont worry i just checked, its not but thanks for the concern :). So back to the original question, Will they survive?

Without knowing the species its hard to say. A lot of hermits are pretty much the just add water and food variety but there are some that have very specific care requirements. If there in the surf zone they may require high levels of oxygen. Back to the species thing, maybe they're juveniles of a hermit that gets crazy huge. Like the always entertaining and grumpy giant hermit crab of Florida. Could you take a picture and post it of the ones you were considering adding?

Well the beach is a good 5 min drive away so idk if i can post pics. The largest hermit ive seen is like 5 cms max.
They live in extremely shallow water, so prettt much where the sand and water meet.

what color are they? and where, approximately, is the beach located (state and body of water)
They are grayish and whitish mixed (sometimes dark gray) colours. And they are at th shallowest area. And sometimes they are like half a meter away from the water. So they pretty much can be found at the shallowest possible point of water.
