What coral to fill my tank?

HUNGRYOVEN

Hey guys. I was wondering if you could help me out by suggesting easy to keep, and not super slow growing coral I could fill my rock with. As you can see, I still have a lot to fill, but I still have no idea what my main coral(s) will be (top left rock) and what to fill for the back row of rocks. Anyone have suggestions?

Its really all personal preference..

Do you want all softies or are you going for a mixed reef? LPS/SPS?
How are your nitrate/phosphate levels?
Do you have cal/alk/mag test kits yet?

I would second the leather coral... finger leather/devils hand/colt coral/kenya tree or a nice green cabbage leather...
Maybe some zoas..
Some mushrooms..

But it really is all up to you.. I wouldn't suggest what color car you should buy or how to arrange your closet either ;)

oh.. duplicate posting too..

Duh - shirts on the left, pants on the right.

Black.

man, I'm good at this.

:)

and since I'm on a roll, you want slow growth. Fast growing corals are the crabgrass of saltwater. once you have it, it can be difficult to get rid of, and no one wants it.

Zoanthids can be nice if that's your thing. color, good growth, fairly easy to keep.
Ricordea can be nice. if you are going to be overrun by something I vote for these.

GSP and xenia's will fill empty space fast. Just be careful cause they can take over a tank. You could also go with euphyllias. I've seen some humongous frogspawns

Any kind of xenia or star polyp is going to be a weed. However, they are relatively cheap and grow really fast.

Duncans, hammers, and some of the other LPS grow slower but won't overrun your tank.

Zoas are good for color, but they won't give you movement if that's your thing.

You make no mention about lighting or anything else about your system. Because lighting intensity in large part dictates what type of corals you can keep, that information would be helpful.

And a BIG x1000 to getting slower growing corals. Nothing good happens fast, including the spread of corals.

I also like my torch coral, it's not big but nice and flowy.

I have some gsp, I personally like them a lot, they haven't spread too much but I am sure they will, to me they look like grass and I like it.

I have a potato chip coral that's really cool looking as well, it's growing well for me, not fast but grows good. I got it for a good price at a LFS, I don't see them much so I'm glad I got it when I started.

that size tank i would be more concerned about Quality then quantity. Also anything like gsp xenia anthilia coral will over run it very quickly..

I have a Soft coral tank and have them in mine.. I have to prune them back weekly or they try to take over my Zoas and mushrooms..

for that size tank and a newbie i would suggest zoas.. maybe a few mushrooms .

you can do sps as well but remember requirements and time you want to spend on the tank...

Also Fish you wanna keep.
