What currently is a "Hot" zoa/paly?

So I have been out of the reef scene for 1-2 years and am just beginning to think about coming back. I have always been into zoas/palys and wanted to see if anything "new" has taken over the "high-end" zoas.

Please post some pics so I can see what I can look forward to getting.

Local to Socal, so would definitely would like to see what is near.

There is a lot of fashion going on and lots of people thinking about making easy money with cartoon names.
Please don't fall on the trap!
Choose the beautiful organisms you like and don't feed the fancy "one polyp" market.

Just my old man's advice. ;)

Not to fire anyone. :hammer:

I agree that this is a runaway problem.

I have seen over $1000 per eye watermelon chalices that look like every other watermelon to me.

That being said - the cooler corals generally have a pricetag on them, and that is how they got named.

Doesnt mean there isnt cool stuff out there, you just have to dig around to find your own unique gems. Name um and sell um. :D

Fire and Ice zoas LOL
Palythoa Grandis
Rastas
Darth Maul palys
Sparkly palys like: strawberry wines

I think that some of the more difficult to find (expensive) zoos are sopranos, scarface, Dragonball Z, and Time Machines. They aren't any more impressive to me, but seem to be all the rage right now.

A lot of those zoas mentioned ARE attainable. A lot you can find online and a LOT cheaper than what people are asking. Just because they aren't named or come from the same orginator doesn't mean they aren't the same polyp or should be worth lesss or considered not identical.

Just sayin.

This not even a forum anymore... It's a Walmart price check and show and tell

There's no such thing as high end... I can sell a used pair of underwear for 1k if your willing to buy it for that then its high end

Product is only worth what the buyer is willing to spend

I buy my zoas not because of their " name" or their classification as " high end " but because they appeal to me. Buying designer corals just because is....silly imao.

Guys, I have been around for a long time in the reef scene and I understand that names and hype mean nothing.

It just happens that those tend to be the nicer looking ones and that is why I am a looking to see what is out there that maybe wasn't readily available 2 years ago.

I too buy things I like, not based on name or price tag.

I just don't want to fill my tank with a ton of "common" zoas.

I'm trying my best to participate and learn here.
And I even try to help others most of the time, when I can. When I need to work more hours I can't come here and I miss it!
I believe that if everyone try this, the forum will be more informative, as it should. There are many here that actually help others too.

It is sad that we see all this crazy things going on with the market today, but that's the way it is. I think we need to deal with that simply posting against it, so the newbies can understand. Well, still there are people that like this and other posts and we need to respect them too...

My $.02

I just look for the corals I like.. Then I look for the ones I can afford...,

pretty much......whole lot of corals some drool over that do nothing for me.....some real cheap ones i think are really cool.....i put what i like that i can afford in my tanks.....my personal ceiling for a coral is somewhere around $150 but ive got a lot of $20 and freebies that i like just as much.....

keep what yah like who cares bout the rest.....

In my parts some of the more rare ones are Dragonball Z, Utter Chaos, Embers and probably a few others im not thinking of or still haven't even heard of. I have no idea how these things get their names and all listed above are stupid expensive $30-$100 pp but I don't come across too many that have them either. Ive not been in the hobby long enough to know whats only come to be in last couple years but these were not mentioned above or perhaps go by another cartoon name in other parts.

Some of my personal favorites that I purchased in the 1$ -10$ pp range are Sunny Ds, Candle Apple reds, All the various Hornets red blue purple etc, fire and ice, tubbs blue, bam bams, cheerios, pin wheels, the list goes on and on

The thing is look around and find some varieties you like. Then compare prices. You will find 3 different people selling basicly the same coral under three different names and each having completly different prices on it. Some LFS in our area have assortment of frags with 6 to 10 polyps they are selling for $6.00 to $20.00 then there is another place selling the same corals at $5.00 to $30.00 per polyp and the only difference is the name they put on them. Sure these are not the rarest corals but most are just as beautiful in my eye.
