What DE halide bulbs to get?

My 10k DE EVC are old and need to be replaced. I moved my clam to the top so I figured I go with 14k of some sort. I want to give my mushrooms and softies a break, and also want to see some flouresence. I have a scripps green, and several others that glow under actinics. Can anyone recommend a bulb with a
good bang for the buck?

In the 250W DE 14K range, I'd go with Phoenix 14K's, if there is no other actinic supp. With VHO supp, it is almost too blue. If you find a 12-14K DE that isn't too blue with supplemental actinic, I want to know, too. I'm running AB 10K's and they are toooo yellow (not to mention that my LPS are not the happiest with that much light), but anything else is too blue. I may try a different 10K when I replace... Don't know if that was much help, though...

I love the Phoenix 14k's... lol Just to jump on the band wagon... Though I was thinking about trying the 12K Reeflux next time just to see... I've heard good things... :)

If you were happy with the 10k EVC, why not the 14k? I love mine. Can't speak for/against the Phoenix though as I've never seen them in action. People seem to be happy with them.

I ran my EVCs without supplements.

Thanks. So I will compare the spectrums of EVC vs Phoenix and probably go with the bluest, since I dont use vho supplementation. I do have a power compact fixture with 130 watts of actinic 03. I took it off my tank when I got rid of the hood. I couldn't even tell it was on when the halides were on also.
Maybe I will try it again with my 14k's, but maybe it will be too blue.

Hmmm. I am looking for a pair of 175W single-ended MH bulbs (like Hamilton 14000K). I just started another thread asking for advice. :)

Do you have a link to a good source on-line? Perhaps we can get a group order and save on shipping.

I know they are a bit expensive, but I have been using these and am very happy with the color and intensity.

I installed my 14k Phoenix DE 250 bulbs Friday night after the lights went off. I reduced the cycle from 7 hours to 5. I can say that my new bulbs are a lot less yellow than my old 10k's. I think I saw a little bleaching in a green ricordia on the bottom. My green striped mushrooms are glowing now and contracted in size. I wonder how much the intensity had dropped off in the 10k's after over a year of usage at 7 hours a day.
