What do I do with this Monti?

I recently aquired a piece of monti because an anemone was attached to it. When I purchased it, it was easier for him to break it off and the nem and monti came home with me.

But now what do I do do with this piece of Monti? As you can see from the white areas the reason he was selling it was because it was burning the monti.

I don't know anything about them so I was wondering if I need to attach it to something, cut off the dead white pieces, etc....

Any suggestions?

Give it good params and let it go. Those things come back no problem under ideal conditions. I found a piece that broke off mine behind some rock. Must have been there for 5 months or so. It has very little color to it. I glued it to a frag plug and now it's over 8 inches and fully colored back up. They are pretty bullet proof IMO.

can't see the picture, is the anemone still in the sme place? Usually in a new tank they will move to an ideal spot. if not you can help him out by very carefully removing it's foot from the rock and set him in the tank somewhere away from the monti and hope that he finds a better place to settle down.

The white portion on the monti is most likely dead. The healthy portion will probably encrust over it if you give it enough time, but I recommend breaking the dead portion off also. It's a fast grower.

Hi Gemma,

You might want to break it into a couple of pieces, save one (maybe the first big one that's attached to the rock), and sell ($10-15 each) or trade the other two pieces to local reefers and put a little something towards the lights you need to buy.

I would give it a couple weeks before you break it up to see what it does. Ive had caps get stung and turn white only to recover completely in short order. I also had a nice frag fall into the sand and didnt find it till the whole thing was pure white. I cleaned it off and propped it up and it totally recovered.
