What do I need for a 40br QT?

I picked up a 40 breeder from Petco in that $1/gal sale recently, and want to set it up as my QT tank. I thought the length of it plus the water volume would do nicely even for larger fish that need to be QT'd.

I'm not exactly sure what I need in the QT, so hopefully you guys can help me out with this list!

- 150watt Eheim jager heater
- Some HOB Filter w/ ?? media?
- A few Seio 620's and random other powerheads (I have so many left over from my other projects) just in case the fish likes a little workout
- 55watt PC Light
- A few 2" pvc pipe here and there.

So would a HOB filter be enough? What kind of media? What brand / size / capacity?

Should I constantly change water every week? Should I change media every week?

Should I have LiveRock in there? Will the "live" stuff die anyway if I use medication?

THANK YOU!! You guys kick butt ;)

Emperor biowheel works for me. Put the wheel in the sump a few days before setting up the QT.

Might also want to set it up so water changes are easy. I always manage to make a mess of it.

Oh. You might also want to get a divider. I've found this useful when QTing a couple of fishes, and one has more of an appetite than the other.

By the way, I think that 40 breeder is TOO big to take to school. :)

In the last meeting presentation, Frank recommended a 20 (at least) gallon tank with a HOB filter and some chaetomorpha for nutrient control. Fill with 1/2 old water and 1/2 new.

Aquaclear 500 would be good on a 40.

You won't use carbon because you don't want your meds to get removed.

For corals, figure what meds you want to dose, and spread out the treatments over time, rather than treating for everything at the same time.

Interceptor for red bugs.

Flatworm exit for the red flatworms.

Fluke tabs for acro flatworms (I think)

Full strength Seachem Reef dip for tissue recession - apply with a Q-tip to affected areas.

Dipping and manual removal for monti nudis. Reinspect for eggs that have hatched. Can use wrasses for nudi control too.

There was a bunch more that he covered. Maybe others can fill in.

He has a book that goes into more detail than the presentation. Should be available by now.

don't make me regret not coming =*(

Well what I remember from the meeting, after the Swedish Bikini team left, and just before the free ice cream and iPod givaway was something about setting up QT tanks. Or was that after we all got our free tickets to the Playboy mansion? It was too hard to remember, what with all the strippers and free scotch.

neat, thanks Norman for the tips... but I think my real question was about the bikini team! hehehe.

I'll probably set some of this stuff up this weekend if I don't end up turning it into an angler tank =P

Oh, you meant QT as in Cuties, not as in Quarantine :)

Ok, just don't use the 40 for cuttles... too shallow, heheh.
