What do people with large tanks do when Ich is present?

Ivy,

That should be sufficient. We're only using an 18w TurboTwist in our 215 and it seems to be working fine. My hippo had spots constantly for a month varying from mild to fully peppered between life cycles. We installed the UV and now she clears up completely between life cycles and the last one was only a few spots for 1 day. She's been clear for a week now.

Yesterday, we added our last 2 fish that have been held at the fish store for the past month. I know we're taking a chance adding them this soon but I didn't want all my other fish getting too much bigger from the extra feedings. The new additions are a Flame Angel and a Coral Beauty. (Yes, we've broken yet another "rule".) They both seem content. They've been grazing constantly on the LR and they came up for the first time for feeding this evening. I think they should be fine.

I hope so. My other concern is that I've still got some fragging and rock work to do so if the Reanimation Theory is correct, things might be taking a downturn this week. Should be over in a few days though. Like I said, I'll keep you all apprised.

Well, it has been a month now and things definitely seem better. The tangs, as well as the Copperband Butterfly, have regained most of their color and the scratching and twitching has reduced significantly. The only 'treatment' has been garlic soaked foods, stepped up water changes and UV. So far, ('knock wood') no losses.

your a brave and strong person 64Ivy. I don't know if it was right or wrong but you made a decision stood your ground. Your tank is a great test case because of its age. Good luck and happy reefing.

Any updates?

It's been about three months since my outbreak and I'd say things are about 95% back to normal. My Sohal will still very occasionally scratch itself but its color has completely returned and it is otherwise behaving normally. All other fish are doing fine; great color, no scratching, clear skin. Also, not only did I not lose a single fish during this time but I have even introduced a new fish (Mystery Wrasse) since the event and it has shown no signs of the disease.

My 'treatment' has consisted of garlic, water changes, UV, and keeping my water parameters as stable as possible. Don't know about all that 'brave and strong' stuff nyvp, but I sure as heck wasn't about to strip down or hypo a 500g SPS specific reeftank that's been running over 10 years!
