What do you do when you receive a new frag?

Has anyone observed any unwanted pests such as flatworms or red bugs arriving with their maricultured frags from online stores. What precautions would you recommend before introducing SPS into your display? Dips? Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m interested in what practices you find necessary to avoid infestations. I am not crazy about the quarantining of a newly acquired coral. I really donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t have the appropriate lighting and additional equipment to satisfy the needs of SPS in a separate environment. Is QT really necessary?

i ave never wt anything and have had great results. i do have a growout tank setup that i put new frags in until i get ready to place them in the display, usually like to see how they eact to the lighting and then find a good flow area for them, then sopy it in the display. also the growout tank allows the coral time to adjust to new lighting and not make the reast of the croals, if it were in the display, to suffer

FishPharm,

when dealing with frags, I fear red bugs, acro flat worms, regular flat worms, and other unwanted creatures such as bad crabs ect.

A. dip like lugol's solution for general unwanted parasites

B. interceptor for red bugs

C. regular flat worms, salifert exit solution

D. acro flat worms, turkey blaster, and the coral will be inspected with a magnifier glass for them, eggs, and other regular unwanted pest

E. introduce the coral to the tank and pray I didn't miss anything :D

if you have the space, money for extra equip for QT, then I think is worth it, not just for parasites, but sometimes frags hinder the look of the main tank ;)
good luck.
