I do a weekly kalkwasser and thats about it but i am about to kick it up a notch as i have been adding more sps. What do you put in your tanks and how often?

I dosed BRS 2 part soln with a BM t01 doser till i got rid of all my corals... also dosed Mg same way

Homemade Randy's recipe 2-part via BRS 1.1ml parastalic pumps controlled by my RKE. Going through a gallon each every 2 weeks thanks to my hungry clams, SPS, and flourishing coralline. Haven't had to dose any mag as that seems to stay high through water changes.

Alk, calcium, mag, vinegar via marine color doser. Hand dose phyto via John . I do maybe 3 to 4 wc a year with this set up. 10% Wc seem to **** my coral off. I add concentrated brine to my topoff to make up for sg loss from my skimmer ect and add trace elements. Im playing with the idea of a small wc once a month but I figure if it isn't broke, don't fix it.

I still haven't switched over to a Calcium Reactor as everything seems to be working with what I have been doing... I make my own Calcium, Alk & Mag utilizing the BRS ingredients and formula - however, I make my Calcium and Alk twice as strong.

I dose hourly using the BRS Parastalic pumps. Calcium is on for 19 minutes each hour, Alk for 20 minutes and Mag for 4 minutes. My ATO water goes through my Kalk Stirrer.

Every Friday I perform a 100 - 150 gallon water change. Once a month or so, I throw into my sump 4 or 5 of the SeaLab #28 cubes that help replenish any missing minerals and trace elements.

Thanks guys!
After reading this i realize that i am dosing more than just kalk. I use the John lab phyto, i use the sea lab cubes.
I was admiring Jeff's dosers last weekend and i think i want to set up something along those lines along with an ato. I want to step up my game so i upgraded my lights and skimmer and this feels like the right thing to do next.

I was manually dosing Alk/Cal until mid-Jan when I picked up the dosing pumps (thank you, wifey). Those, and my ATO have been my MVP's to date! ...also using John's LAB Phyto to supplement the small amount I culture myself. Next step is a DIY auto phyto-feeder using a modded air-freshener..(thank you, Jose)!

Your holding out on me. Need phyto auto dose. Seriously though, doesn't it need to be refrigerated?

I'm dosing a liter to 2 liters a week. When funds allow I will add a perastalic pump to my RKE to dose every 6 hours. I will run a 1/2gal container and figure the phyto is fine sitting at room temp for a couple of days. Might even make it a little more viable for the critters being active at time of feeding. Dunno...?

Hey Jeff, did you ever find out about that calcium chloride source?

DangerWill, I dose BRS 2-part (interested in switching to DIY recipe) with BRS pumps & RKL.

Hey Jeff, did you ever find out about that calcium chloride source?

Best/most economical source is what Randy used...de-icer. available via ACE for about .70/lb or $2.80 a dry gallon. The only down side is that it mixes on the brown side...looks like light tea. Let it set overnight and the particulates settle out. Decant the clear and wallah! Sure beats the $18.99+shipping/gal ($4.75/lb) BRS.

Be sure to get the pure Calcium Chloride de-icer...there are numerous other chemicals out there sold as de-icer. You want SAFE STEP Extreme 7300. It is a special order, but takes less than a week to come in...and 50lb will get you through at least a few months. :D

Koralin calcium reactor monitored by my controller and PH probe, Kalk through my ATO and Avast Stirrer, 25 gallon water change every other Sunday. Alk stays steady calcium was starting to drop by Sunday water change, so that's when I decided to go with Kalk and so far so good. This is only week 1 with Kalk so I am sure there will be lots of tuning in the next month.

I got this for calcium chloride, at the time it qualified for free shipping past 25 bucks so it was a better deal. I have a 300 gal tank full of SPS and this will last me more than a year. Overall 40 bucks for the year is not a bad IMO

Here is what I got for the Magnesium mix. You still need bath salts to complete the mix, this will last me forever and a day

For Alkalinity I use good ol Baking soda found at any grocery store.

It is $43.20 to my door via Amazon. The differences I see are that the flake is 77-80% pure, the anhydrous pellet is 90% per the MSDS. How does the flake mix up..dissolve quickly? ..how cloudy is the mix, and does it settle out if left overnight? I would be interested in comparing the two side-by-side. I have been happy with the ACE stuff, but always looking for a better option.
