what do you guys recommend??

from after reviewing everything, it seems like the D60 has some newer technologies over the D80, cuss the D60 just came out and the D80 came out a couple years already. None the less, the D80 still beats the D60 as far features goes.
So I went to ritz to try out both the cameras. I bought the D60 and played with a for about a day. then today I took the D60 back and traded it for the D80 to play with to see the difference. I can honestly say that I like the D80 better because it feels better in my hands (bigger). also it's a little more easier to use (more separate function buttons aperture/shutter speed, separately.) Also I noticed that in the time that I had the D60 (1 day/1night) it started acting up. the screen in the back would every now and then flicker, so I can't see what my aperture is set at or what shutter speed I'm shooting at. I think this may be a problem with the D60s, I'm not sure. anyways, I now have the D80 and I think I might just keep it, I like it so far.
thanks guys for all the info. I appreciate you guys all chiming in to help me. I'm glad I can rely on you guys to help me before I go and spend $1500 blindly. thanks again.

No offense meant, but the problem was likely you. Don't be so quick to blame a camera for issues when it is probably doing just what you told it to without even realizing it.

no offense taken. the D60 is great.... and I know that I'm a newb so as far as picture taken, it's my fault I'm not very good yet. but the issue with the screen is a common thing with the D60, the guy at ritz told me this. I guess that some d60s have "bugs" in it, and I got one that has it. so when I took it back in, I was really going to just exchange it for another D60, but I was like "heck, if I can exchange it for a d80, why not?" so I did, and now I really like the d80, how it feels and the ease of use. I was planning originally that if I didn't like the d80 I would take it back for another D60, since I have 30days to juggle around with it, but looks like at the moment, I'm sticking with the D80.

all taken in manual mode with different shutter/aperture speed for each one. sorry for the crappy pictures guys, I have a lot to learn. thanks all for helping me select this camera.

Off to a good start here jthao! I think my first manual mode pics weren't as good as yours. :)

I just picked up a Nikkor 50mm 1.8d lens today to play with. Although an older lens I hear a lot of raves about it.

thanks mike!! how you liking that 50mm 1.8d lens?
thanks titusvilesurfer......... you've been a great help!!! I'm sure I'll be asking you for more advice later. thanks again.

The lens is quite nice! Very fast and sharp for a $100 prime lens. I haven't had too much time to play with it much since I been busy running around.
