What do you think of my BB tank?

I have the penductors pointing towards the front/middle of the tank. They hit each other right before hitting the glass.

Thereis no closed loop as of now.

The penductors are on the return.

I don't know what it is but I cleaned my skimmer cup yesterday afternoon and fed a little last night. Today my skimmer cup has all sorts of crap in it. I don't know where it's comming from :)

I would be more worried if there was no crap in it ;).

How do you prevent a back syphon from your tank down to the sump if the power goes out? I assume that the penductors are at least half way under water. If you are counting on a check valve, I would use some other type of security, my friend's check valve never works.

Thanks,
Whiskey

Probably just drilled a small hole on the underside of the pvc just below the water line so you would hardly back siphon anything if the juice went out.

That's what I did.. I have it aimed up at the waterline so I can see if it's plugged or not.

I'm back. I tell you those aliens and their anal pro.... err spaceships.

Actually I have been trying all day to get the carbs off my bike for a cleaning but can't seem to make it happen. Maybe Mr. Dohoney will help. ;)

Everything has been going really steady. So steady to the point that I'm getting bored so now I'll be focusing on livestock.

Once my tank clears up I'll take some pics of my new stuff. The tank was getting filthy so I just did a deep cleaning on it. :p

Here's my first growth shot (about 3.5 months):

Since Bomber is no longer with us I pulled up his old posts and started reading thru them (highly recommended), that dude really knows his sh*t.

One of the things was that washing my hands with original Palmolive until they're squeaky clean will let me put my hands in my tank with out my skimmer losing it's head. That works great.

Another thing I learned was the secret to coralline, Strontium Chloride. My tank had an outbreak of coralline about a month.5 ago, then it just stopped for some reason.

People were saying that you need steady levels, mine are dead steady at NSW. People were saying that my lights were too bright, they probably are but I should still have some in the shade and underside of my rocks, but there wasn't any. I do Have Urchins but there should still be atleast some.

Finally I tried dosing Strontium and thats what did it. I have purple blotches on every single rock in my tank and starting on my starboard again. Once it starts getting out of control, I'll stop dosing and let some die off.

I picked up a UV and plumbed it to my overflow. My standpipe is pretty high so there are no bubbles that go thru it.

It's a 40W Aqua with about 600 GPH thru it.

Here is a dark picture of it.

I made it a stand out of PVC. It's made so that it can't tip or turn over. American engineering at it's finest.

My new chips (whatever that means)

Looking good! I'm curious about the frag tray as well.

Get that Xenia out of the tank before it's too late. Seriously. That's a dangerous addition to an SPS system.

Looking good, NoSchwag!
I have been dosing Strontium for a few months now....not sure if makes a difference but all my live rock is covered in deep purple coralines...I even have some oranges, too.
My base rock is now starting to get it as well as my starboard.

Was that a Strawberry Pseudochromis? I have one... he's the best!

I happen to like the little bit of Xenia I have in my sps tank. Itââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s a great indicator of how clean Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m keeping the water. Xenia will grow very, very slowly (if at all) if the water is low in nutrients.
