What do you think of my BB tank?

rm -rf

.... Just don't type that in ;)

I love linux, been using it for something like 10 years. I find RedHat to be more or less on the lame side, I run Gentoo 5.2 (www.gentoo.org).

This flavor of linux really lets you learn the linux architecture and how everything works since you have to compile every part of the OS. It also allows you to COMPLETELY customize the entier OS from the kernel to the x front end. Pretty rad. Wish they would let me run linux here at work but my work is pro-Microsoft anything.

Oh duh now I see the seam in one of the pics just above. On CuttingBoardCompany.com I can get 2 sheets that would work on a 120 (I think) for like $40 shipped verses $66 for the one large peice alone.

Way back in 1993, just as an experiment, I logged into my little Linux PC as the root user and typed:

# cd /
# rm -Rf *

Of course, the prompt never came back. Oh, well. I was planning on reloading the OS anyway.

;)

Here is a bad picture of what left of the algae I was freaking out over..

Some is still left on the overflows. Here is the coralline starting to take off.

And I thought I was anal about algae. the way i pictured it by your posts I thought your tank looked like a seahorse tank :D . Looks very clean, that skimmer is really working wonders.

Thats typically a bad thing unless you want to reload it :) I was in middle-school back in 1993 and running linux. I was $elite++;

haha.. Sorry for hijacking your thread man

I lost some acro's/monites and I figured I was going something wrong, I worried over nothing. I'm still all new to this and didn't/dont know what to expect.

Here are some more pics of the tank. I will post the new livestock when the lights come on.

It's weird waking up in the morning and not seeing any water in the tank.

Here is a view from one of the windows at work today. Since we keep tropical corals here up north, shouldn't you down south folk keep snowmen?? It's only fair.

It's beginning to look a lot like christmas..

We got 12" of snow Wed-Thurs of this week... Boy it makes me want to move back to Fort Myers FLORIDA!

Happy Holidays, winter is upon us!

Do you think if I didn't cook my old rock and put it in my spotted mandarin would survive?

I have had him for almost 2 years but he eats brine -- which makes me less worried because I can always feed him. Just a thought I had.

I'm not really sure about your question to be honest. I can tell you that I don't see very many bugs on my rocks when the lights go out, but I think my rocks were pretty "dead" to begin with.

If he's eating brine, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thatââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s the approach I took with my spotted Mandarin in my 180 and my striped Mandarin in my 155 (I've had both fish for two years). I didnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t cook the rocks in either tank when the sand was removed.

The spotted Mandarin is a bit thinner than she was when I had a sand bed, but she is still doing well now, eight months later. I expect the striped Mandarin will do ok in my 155, but I wonââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t know for sure for a few months (I took the sand bed out this past Sunday).

It makes the transition to a bare-bottom tank a little messy for about three or four months, but if you want to keep your Mandarin happy, itââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s worth it.

Here are some pics..

This is my newest urchin and my goby. I've read that they jump out of the tank, but I haven't even seen mine off of the starboard yet.

This is poon the tang.. He has herpies on his lip right now, but I'm hoping that'll pass with good water quality.

^^ I have never seen the polyps on that acro even come out.. I wonder what I'm doing wrong? At the LFS they were out, and the tank has high nutrients.

Here's my tuxido.. For some reason I can't get a good pic of it. In real life the blue really jumps out at you.

sweeeet!!!!
that urchin is freakin amazing!! nothe tuxedo, the other one, im not sure of the name. I would like to get one of the ones like a tuxedo or even one like that, but have heard that they would need a tank larger than my 40 gallon.
if youd ont mind me asking, how much was your auto topoff and where did you get it?
are you goign to the meeting on sunday?

The auto-top off is from floatswitches.net, they were pretty cheap. If you go that route, don't waste money on the mold-a-holder thing they sell. I'll take pics of what I made later, it came out pretty hot.

Yeah i'll be at the meeting. I'll probably be wearing a black hoodie and a black puffy vest. I will be the "ghetto" one. Come say high.

I'll post more updates when I get back tonight. I apologize ahead of time if my typing is slurred and my

The tank is looking really good NoSchawag. I know what you mean about looking at the tank and thinking there's no water. Keep up the updates.

NoScwhag,
I like the tank, looks off to a good start. My question is, I noticed the screen name 'NoSchwag' and was wondering if you had bougt the lights especially for the tank, or had them 'left over' from some other hobby. :) I'm just playin, down here in the south we don't use the word Schwag. On that note, I always wonder what my neighbors think of my lights, I have 2 x 250 watt halides on a 90 in my neighborhood; it looks quite bright from the street, thank God I use 14ks, so it doesn't have that 'tell-tale' yellow tint to it. I wonder if anyone with a reef tank and bright lights, and high electric bill has ever been hastled because they thought it might have been something else.
Good luck with the tank, looks good.
