What do you think of this torch coral?

Figured I'd post my gold since nobody has posted one yet despite lots of people asking. I bought mine at Reefapalooza a few months back. It looks mostly black/brown in full daylight, with some gold showing. Under actinic it glows gold. The gold definitely changes over time and fades or gets stronger in certain areas. At this point I think it's a flourescence, so anywhere on the coral that gets direct UV spectrum lighting tends to be golder vs. brown/black. Neat coral though.

Picked ours up today and it is a pain in the ***. Can't figure out placement water flow or lighting.

For mine, i put it on the bottom in just an open spot, was in a bit higher flow, left it there for a day and nothing, moved it a couple inches to a bit less flow but same lighting and still nothing that day. Moved it just a tad bit more must have been just enough less flow cause its extended wonderfully since!

Moved ours as well and now it's doing great! Still not at it's fullest potential yet though.

Just want some opinions on the coloration, kind of curious how...'rare' it is, I personally have never seen one this green, The guy i got it from said they were pretty rare...So lets just get a second opinion, if you happen to know the exact kind of torch that'd be nice but not the main question :P

On a side note, if anyone can confirm that all those corals behind it are aiptasia that would be nice.

How is your torch doing today?

It is doing much better! It is mostly open just not at its fullest potential. I'm going to wait a day or two the move it around a bit to see where it wants to be. It's in the sand bed in lower light lower flow area.

Glad to hear it. They do like being right where you have it. In the sand, low light and moderate to low flow. Sure try some different placements in the sand that you like better than where it is. Just give it a few days before moving it again.

I just got into torches too :) Finally plucked the courage and got a gold, although sulking at the moment fingers crossed it'll be happy soon...

Cheers,

Very nice! I was very hesitant about torches and hammers at first...Looking back i honestly can't figure out why haha. They are amazing! i guess it helps that i got mine free with a tank purchase :D

That green with pink tips is absolutely gorgeous. Aussie gold has always been one of my favorites. I can't wait until my new tank is ready for coral. All this eye candy makes it hard to be patient!
