what do you think?

now is the time
I have 180g sps tank with sump & frag tank. I'm thinking I would like to tie in a nano non-pnoto tank, maybe 5-10 gal. Thought a slow turn over of water could slowly flush uneaten food into sps tank & corals there could eat the rest. Could use small power head for extra flow in the non-photo tank.

When I got my first tank I got some np corals & really liked them, but LFS didn't tell me they wouldn't last long term with out special care. So thought I might try again with there own tank. What do you think would be a good set up for me?

A 5-10g tank is really going to limit what you can keep. A single gorgonian could take up the entire tank! Other than that, I think its an awesome idea. Look at Chingchai's build in the large reef forum. Keep us updated!

thanks for quick reply uhuru

before I go to much farther a couple general questions pls

does the temp in a nps tank need to be lower than my sps 77-79 I saw some one said some thing about temp of 74?

is there a vender website that has pix & care info on all, most, or at least a lot of the nps. I know from your nano reef thread there is a wide range of needs, not to mention names I'm not familiar with, so I need to do some research before I even begin planing. also along this same thought what about a good source for general nps info, there doesn't seem to be a primer/info thread on this forum. Some thing on the shorter side & in plain english (not so much the ref. to scientific journals) I'm more of an art type than techie.

I imagine there will be couple more questions, but this info will keep me busy for awhile.

I'm really looking foreword to this!

There's not really any one source on care, you kind of have to keep reading other hobbyist experiences. That's pretty much all we have to go on. The book by Fabricius is a great reference for ID'ing corals and reading a bit about their natural environment. There are some articles out there if you just google non-photosynthetic corals, which you probably have done by now. I don't know if the tank NEEDS to be lower than 74 - probably not - but it probably does help.

wow thats really discouraging!

I've been reading threads & there are so many names, abbreviations & references to things I'm not familiar with, it's hard to get any thing out of some of them. I'll keep trying, maybe I can find a local to help get up to speed.

@fullmonti I am working on a article on a few basics of non-photosynthetic reef keeping that should be out towards the beginning of June. If you have any questions feel free to PM me.
