What do you think???

Maybe Eddie's or other shops would be interested in hosting a meeting for a few hours once a month. A large group may lead to price cuts for members and more business for the store.

Just thought I'd post the last email exchange.........

Hi Joe,

I kind of think a story about the hobby would need to mention the group, in some form, since it is local and factors pretty centrally in the hobby for enthusiasts, from what you explained to me. The story could focus on individual members, giving less weight to the group as a whole, of course. I think it would be possible, also, to make it clear in the story that the group is at its size limit for the moment - which I think is an interesting point, as well. But we can talk more about that.

Let me know,

Stephanie

Hi Stephanie,

Just touching base on the saltwater story. Our club is apprehensive about the story mentioning our club info. They are afraid of a membership explosion which they feel we are unable to handle at this time.

Is this idea less appealing? I still feel that this hobby is very
interesting and that alone could make for a cool story. Let me know
what your thoughts are.

Let me know,
Joe Allard

I like "small and personal too" but I got to say, I did enjoy the larger gathering that I experienced at the Calfo event with HVRK group. Just wouldn't want all that at MY place! :D

I am by no means against the mentioning of our club. We just have to have a game plan when Joe gets 50 e-mails through the website asking for membership. But as Joe said, we can discuss this at the meeting.

I think what also makes our group great is the fact that we can discuss "our" club and it's future......which if most of you reemember was something we didn't have the luxury of before.

We can discuss it and if we all think its better we do nothing in the TU then so be it :)

So we are having a closed door policy now? Thought it was open to anyone?

I don't think anyone is saying that no more people can join. It's just a debate about whether we should be actively seeking growth.

Because I work at the TU I had the opportunity to speak with the woman who is egger to write about the hobby. I expressed the apprehension some of us have, mainly because of the "possible" membership explosion. She made it clear that we can have little to no mention of CDMAS in the story. She just thinks this is something that has never been written about in the TU and would be a great story and great graphics too. We could mention CDMAS in the story with no contact info......she just wanted to illustrate that there is a local interest in the hobby here in NY.

I dont think its a bad idea myself.. Just dont give any contact info if you dont want to be bombarded

I don't really think there's anything wrong with mentioning CDMAS in the article.
I agree.

Personally, I don't think membership is gonna jump as much as one might think.

Maybe the best suloution is yes mention CDMAS with no contact info. Also mention reefcentrals "club forum" section and the readership can find a club that suits them. Im with TA I don't think the membership is gonna explode. FWIW I have recieved inquries about joining via e-mail and the people never post or join for that matter.

FWIW I have also given out the club address to several customers at Eddies and never seen any of them.

Many people just want to enjoy their hobby and don't want to be part of a "club"

I however couldn't imagine this hobby without you all as a resource.

What a brave soul you are Matt

We might get a spike in inquiries which would be a headache for Joe to a degree but agree membership will probally not rise in relation to the article ( no Nemo effect in my view )
