The first tank is 30 inches tall and the base is 34 inches from the floor. I will be putting another tank directly across the room, only about 5 feet from the first. The second tank is 24 inches tall. Do I put the base of the tank at the same level, 34 inches from the floor, which would make the tops different heights or do I raise the base of the second 6 inches so the tops will be the same hieght?

The stand for the second tank is not built yet. But, will be in one or two days. So I can build it 34 inches tall or 40 inches tall.

Sounds like a a question that can only be answered by you as it's personal preference. My 2 cents worth says to make the tops level with each other.

High stands are amazing.

You can stand straight up and be able to see everything.

Short arms=short stands or stepstools... I spend more time with my arms in my tank than looking at them sometimes... Just don't forget about leaving room for a canopy/lighting...

The other tank is already too tall. Not much I can do about it. The stool and/or ladder are already a part of the story.

I'd go tall & keep the tops consistent.

I'm toying with the idea of a really short stand for my next tank... like 18" or so w/ the top of the tank at 30". Put cushions on the floor around it, zen style.

I'd go with the 40 inches. My old one was 36" and I would have liked to have had it a little higher.

Randy, you change your rocks and corals weekly. I would say keep them level- 40 inches. It's easier on the eyes.

macclellan- a really short tank. make it open top, put a MH over it and a few clams, some black sand and you will be set. forget the whole pillows and zen thing

i'd make it high and keep the tops level personally. step stool or not, its nice to have them at eye level.

Yeah, it will be open top with that same MH pendant, and yes, probably a clam or three. No black sand though - call me cracka, but I like a thin layer of white aragonite.

the 40s have it. I cut the supports last night. Will have the base built for the tank tonight. It will not be fancy, not even pretty at first. Maybe, knowing me, never pretty!!!!!

Paul - yes the 375 and 300.

Joel - are you serious? a tank on the floor. Sounds like a battle to keep stuffffff from getting in it to me. The grandbaby is not even walking yet, but it would not work at my house. Rots of ruck.
