What do you use for back up power ?

Now that I have alot of money tied up in this thing I have been thinking alot about buying my own generator. What are you guys doing for a back up plan, and anybody want to sell a portable generator?

My budget is slim but just thought I would ask, Im also interested in generators that dont run. So if you have one that is taking up space in the shed and hasnt been started in a long time pm me.

I am going to get a battery back up, just for the essentials: heat, flow. That would only be good for short term outages though. I have one for my pico at work, but my work paid for it.

I bought a generator shopped around for awhile and found one in a pawn shop..

P.s I might know where one is that needs some repair but its real cheap

I hate to even say it, but we have really good electric service and in the last 3 years have not had power outages lasting more than maybe 2 hours. I use battery powered air stones (I know they are not very effective, but it's what I've got) for now, but there are a bunch of sub-$200 generators out now, I plan on picking one up shortly.

I looked at a few of the sub 200 and only one stood out like it could be capable of what I need. I need about 1000 watts for my whole tank. I would really like to find a used gen with a briggs and stratton or other good quality brand used in the 100-200 dollar range. I just dont know about the ones from harbor freight.

They have generators at every auction I have been to. Dont know what a good price is, but everything else goes cheap. With the weather, tomorrow would be a good one.

Very creative Zach but its gonna take a whole bunch of angry hamsters to get my 1000 watts and next thing you know I start getting letters from PETA in the mail.

I have several UPS (I buy em used non working for cheap when I come across them and put a new battery in them). Usually averages 40 bucks total for a 1400-1800 watt UPS. I also do have a Generator for long outages. Bought mine new several years ago in Seattle and saved my home and sanity during a 7 day power outage. On sale was 400 bucks at sears..Briggs genny, sears branded.

like i said in a few post ago my buddy had a 7000watt generator used one yr and then he let it sit over a yr .. He said he couldnt get it to crank unless he put starter fluid in it.. Sounds like the carb. needs cleaned out. If he still has it he wanted 125 $ for it..

Check Home Depot.

They sometimes have No Interest for 6 or 12 months for purchases over a certain amount, usually $299.

If you can catch the 12 month deal you can get a generator that will power your tank, fridge, TV, lights and just about anything else you need for $10 a week. That's just brown bagging lunch or skipping other treats (unless you already are)
