what does rtn mean......

rapid tissue necrosis (sp?) = basically the tissue sheds off of your acro usually within a day. Perfect water/light/food/conditions is the only way to prevent. Sinse we cannot achieve this, keeping everything as close to ideal parameters is your best preventative measure. Sorry for being so vague, it could be caused by any number of things and we could fill a board with all of the stuff that can kill an acro (actually just read this board, we already have). All of the things that people typically tell you not to do with acros could potentially cause rtn or any number of negative syndromes.

It is almost always stress related, the problem is knowing what is causing the stress. Sometimes new corals do this and you will never know why. Sometimes old corals will do it out of know where and you will not know why. If it is isolated to one coral it is usually something you did recently to that piece specifically (this could be as simple as just moving it from one tank to another with poor acclimation). If it happens to your whole tank, it is usually something that has happened or been added to your water recently.

As soon as I am sure that RTN is occuring I frag the SPS. This sometime is able to save the larger pieces. And the smaller pieces may grow back too.
