What dose this mean

What does it mean when an anenome closes up and does not let the clown fish in and there are very little tenacles sticking out of the top?

Could be a few possibilities. First what species of anemone is it. My strong suspicion is that it has deflated to expel waste and take in new water. If this is the case it should look better than ever in a few hours. Another possibility is stress or something is picking at it. More information would help to determine what is going on.

i think it is a bubble tip i got it from my freind with what i call a tomato clow deep red with yellow strips i have not moved him since i put him in the tank i just put his rock where i wanted and let him do the rest i have not seen anything pick on him the clown is vary protective of him if anything comes close to it he chases it away

How many stripes does your clown have. Tomatoes don't have yellow stripes, at least from what i've seen. If your clown is red and has three yellow stripes than i would assume it is a yellow striped maroon clown. Anyways back to the question at hand. How large is the anemone compared to the clown. Tomatoes and maroons are hard on their host so it is generally recommended that the anemone is 2 to 3 times larger than the clownfish. Also what type of lighting do you have on your reef. Also do you notice any brown excretion coming from your anemones mouth?

i am so new at this i bought the tank from a lfs all set and ready to go it is a jebo r-style with the filter bult in the the hood and it has white and blue lights on it the anemone can hold the clown when they sleep i have to work odd hours and i get up when they are asleep and see them he might be about twice the size of thw clown the clown sounds like the maroon you where talking about

ok, i believe the jebo comes with a pair of power compact lights. Not really sufficient to keep a bubble anemone in a 55 gallon. Also how long has your aquarium been set up? And yes you have to feed the bubble anemone finely shredded frozen foods such as krill, squid, etc.

Yup, you have a golden striped maroon clownfish. My anemone does the same thing when expelling waste. As for you lights I would look to upgrade for longer term success with the anemone.
