what exactly is this? friend or foe?

i'm a week after setting my tank up after a move and somehow got this little starfishy guy crawling across my glass. no idea how it got there as i bought dry substrate to replace the old stuff and never had this before. do i need to remove it?


note: its the blurry thing hovering about my gyre haha.

Asterina Star. Neither friend nor foe in my opinion. I have a bunch in my tank that I never see unless I do a 3 day lights out and than they cover the glass.

upon digging around i see that some are dangerous to zoanthids which is the bulk of my coral. looks like only a bluish variety has been deemed a threat. i'll keep tabs on my garden and deal with any problematic one that i come across.

And, I assume you know, zoanthids can be very dangerous to humans. If you don't have good gloves, get them.

I have these in my tank as well. I rarely see them. And I don't have a problem with them.
