It's fine to have clowns as first in the tank. If you want a pair or trio, either get 2-3 smaller ones, or 1-2 smaller and a bigger one. The larger one will be or will become the female.

There is a great book by Joyce Wilkerson called Clownfish. It has everything you ever wanted to know about their care, breeding, species, diseases, etc. It's in paperback, and a really good value. I have it, don't recall what it cost.

sorted thanks for all the help Lisa, Just phoned the wife to tell her about the picasso trigger, she was really exited to hear that i could keep it, but not too happy to hear that it gets aggresive and 1 cant keep any inverts with it

you may be okay with hermits, some snails, if plenty of cover, serpent stars (which hide), maybe a sturdy urchin. just realize they may not last. picassos are beautiful triggers, and are a good size for your tank.

Nope LOL dont want to chance it HAHAH would be an expensive snack

I understand. I get away with hermits, and a cleaner shrimp, but my trigger ate a $10 queen conch as soon as it was introduced.

I am able to collect some invertebrates a few hours from home, on the North Carolina coast, so the snacks I introduce are not so expensive. :)

One thing I would think about when considering tangs is that they often lose their color after a while if you are not really on top of their diet and giving them vitamins. I would recommend a raccoon or facula butterfly.

I haven't run into that problem with tangs. IME butterflies are more delicate, and may not do as well with aggressive tankmates.
