what fish to add with kole tang

Well after 3 years of a fishless reef I have decided to get a kole tang. He(or she) has immediately started eating and looks great among my corals. I would like to add one or two more fish with my kole. Wondering what people would suggest to go with my kole as I know they can be a bit aggressive. I have a standard 4ft 90 gallon.

Thanks for any advice

Everyone has clowns so you don't really want to go there unless you really do lol.

Fairy wrasses have become some of my favorite fish. Exquisite, lineatus, lubbocks, hooded and Scott's are some of the nicer fairies.

Agreed, except the Scott's. They get too large for a 90 IMO, and are one of the most aggressive Fairy Wrasse. Your other suggestions were perfect.

I've gotten a few cardinals recently, a ring tail, 2yellow striped, and I've had some pajama cardinals. They're not fancy, but they're hardy, colorful, reef safe, and they're always swimming in the open. It's nice to have some fish that don't hide.

thanks guys I don't have any sort of lid right now, any concerns with fish jumping?

My two Scott's haven't jumped while I was around the tank. That doesn't mean they haven't as they are jumpers. You can easily setup a diy screen top of you need too

yeah was just reading up on some of the wrasses you suggested, I really like them... time to research them for a while and look into a lid. how bad is light diffused with screens? I have mainly acros with t5 lighting.

Sorry kind of throwing a lot of questions into this thread.

For a cover, take a look at the vid on BRS. I would recommend getting the mesh from them and everything else from your local home improvement store. Super easy to put together.

Yup, clear mesh from BRS and window screen from hardware store. The clear mesh will not affect your lighting. But a fully covered tank is a must. Fairy Wrasses are jumpers, no question. I have had a few of mine jump out during feeding or maintenance. At least once hits my mesh top every day.

yeah just watched the brs video. mesh is ordered and a trip to the hardware store is in the plans for tomorrow. thanks everyone.

Back to the topic of fish that go well with a kole. I really like wrasse and will do a bit of research and most likely get one. I would like one more fish. can two different kinds of wrasse live happily together or should I look at a different?

Yes, males of different species of Fairy or Flasher Wrasses is usually a good way to go. I have 8 different species of Fairy/Flashers in one tank :)

I have a leopard wrasse with my Kole and Red Tail tang. He does great. Getting it to eat was difficult though. Requires an 1-2in sandbed.

My Kole is in a standard 90 gallon. He has never had any problems with a Royal Gramma, pair of Percs, Bartlett's Anthias, Carpenter's Wrasse, Tailspot Blenny, Leopard Wrasse, or Orange Stripe Prawn Goby. He pretty much does his own thing.
