What food?

I know, it's an overused question, but what is best? Frozen or flake? I would either be using marine one or a mix of emerald entree and marine cuisine(or some similar salt carnivore mix) My clown is tiny, only an inch, maybe. She spits out foods that aren't up to her tiny little mouth:rolleyes: so I don't want to get a ton of food that would not be fresh anymore when I got around to using it...

The best food I have used for clown fish is Mysis Shrimp. Though the clowns I buy always tend to be large so they dont get picked on.

Mine was the first in the tank, so unless snails and tiny hermits would pick on her ;) Okay, frozen it is I guess. And since I know it'd take a looong time for me to use a cube of the frozen stuff, should I just melt it, get off a tiny bit and re-freeze, or what?

cut the frozen cubes up then use what you need i suggest mysis shrimp w frozen cyclopeze mix them thaw them and put them in with your lil clown

veru good suggestion, and very nutritious sounding too

my clowns are so small im feeding baby brine cyclops ground up new life spectrum h2o flake and frozen hufa brine i keep the tank at 80 degrees and feed lots of little feedings all day like 4 or 5 i want them to grow so i am trying to keep their metabolism up

Depending on the species of clown, their natural diet consists of up to 50% plant material.
I really like frozen Formula 1 as an all around balanced food, however its not easy to get the pieces of food small enough for babies. Formula 1 flake is very good, as are some of the other high end flake foods. Mysis and cyclop-eeze are great foods, but mix in some high quality flakes once a day for a balanced diet.

do you like the new life spectrum flakes
maybee i should pick up some formula one and 2 flake

Hm, she's an ocellaris clown, and I ended up getting the marine mix of frozen stuff. Has squid, omega brine shrimp, emerald entree and marine cuisine. The latter two have this stuff "Artemia Franciscana, krill, mysis, menhaden oil, astaxanthin, sodium alginate, spirulina, Vitamin premix: wheat flour, Vitamin A acetate, cholecalciferol (source of vitamin D3), vitamin B12 supplement, riboflavin, niacin, calcium pantothenate, folic acid, menadione sodium bisulfate complex, pyridoxine hydrochloride, thiamine mononitrate, biotin, inositol, L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate, betaine, d-alpha mixed tocopherols (source of vitamin E Artemia Franciscana, mysis, krill, plankton, spinach, romaine lettuce, red leaf lettuce, spirulina algae, menhaden oil, sodium alginate, Vitamin premix: wheat flour, Vitamin Aacetate, cholecalciferol (source of vitamin D3), vitamin B12 supplement, riboflavin, niacin, calcium pantothenate, folic acid, menadione sodium bisulfate complex, pyridoxine hydrochloride, thiamine mononitrate, biotin, inositol, L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate, betaine, d-alpha mixed tocopherols (source of vitamin E)" between the two. I was also planning on getting some mysis(forgot it at the store)

Should I still get the flakes too, or is what I have in combo with the cyclops okay? And should I still thaw and mix it then re-freeze it all together then?

that would make a nice mix but think about portions do you really want equal parts of each food also refreazing can cause nutruient loss

GSMguy, I here good things about the New Spectrum foods. Formula 1 just happens to be what I use because I trust the company.

Riona, You don't need to mix the cyclop-eeze with the other food. Just use it a few times a week instead of the other food. (which sound just fine, BTW)
The only problem I have had with frozen cube food when feeding to very small fish, is that the pieces that come off the cubes are often too big for the small fish. If that is not a problem, don't worry about feeding flakes at all.
