what goes under rimless tank?

I just ordered a 120 gallon rimless tank and am finishing up the stand. obviously i will have 3/4" plywood on top of the stand but I have seen where I need some sort of material on top of the plywood and under the tank. what is best to use for this?

Whatever the tank manufacturer recommends.

You need a foam pad to absorb the imperfections of the stand. Don't remember how thick it needs to be maybe someone else can chime in on this. Don't think you can just get by without it you don't want to come home to a busted tank and soaked floors.

The marineland 60g rimless cube has an open centered stand. It only supports the edges of the tank to avoid any unwanted pressure points which can stress the tank.

It depends on the construction. If it is constructed of just glass and silicone with the bottom bare glass is resting on the surface, then you should use a foam pad like whosurcaddie suggested. If the manufacturer framed the bottom like those purchased at Petco, then nothing special needed to cushion the bottom.

Our system came with a black Styrofoam/foamy type mat that was about 1/2" thick. I would contact the manufacturer of the tank and see if the tank comes with the mat or if it is something you can purchase through them. If not I am sure they will be able to provide their suggestions. I will say that the mat almost looked like something that would be tossed and used only for shipping purposes so do be careful to look at what came in the box!

I've always used 1/2" or 3/4" R-Max insulation board. It comes in a 4' x 8' sheet. My tank has granite going around the edge of the cabinet to hide the foam though.

120 gallon tank with rimless glass bottom here and in my case the builder stressed that it must be supported across the entire underside of the tank via a bracing across the top of a stand that has at least 1/2" plywood on top. after the plywood he also strongly recommended that the tank also sits on a 1/2" piece of styrofoam resolve any irregularities.
