Does it affect corals or animals? I was working on my tank and forgot to turn my skimmer off. The sump water rose and overflowed 1/4 a cup. I wasnt able to turn it off in time. What does this mean?

nothing to worry about the true problem would be if you were to have an ato filling as it was spilling(outside of the tank) if it's just spilling back in the tank/sump then you should have no worries if it's spilling outside then ur salinity will be affected as it's filled with fw
good tip is when you are doing ur w/c skim wet while you clean the rocks off any debris

What was in the cup was in the tank at one time..
Having it overflow back into the tank is not really a problem at all..

Obviously you want to remove it but an overflow and emptying the cup right back where it came from won't cause any problems..
