what heaters are good

Use a controller it makes things so much easier. Also the new stealth heaters are pretty cool and I would reccomend them. But if using a controller you can use the old ebos.

I have had great experiences with the Marineland stealth heaters and the company itself.

They are made of durable plastic so there's no worries of breakage. They came highly recommended by the lfs that I purchased my first tank from, and they have all worked well. Currently I have them in all of my tanks, both 200W and 250W.

I did have a malfunction in one of heaters in my freshwater tank. The outer casing was "melted". I don't know how long it has been melted, it could have been at least a day from the look of it, but it did not cause any catastrophic event to my tank. I posted a thread here on RC, and Les from Marineland contacted me, reminded me that they comes with lifetime warranty (I threw out the box so I was not aware of it), sent a label for me to ship back the heater, and of course, sent a brand new heater. He even offered and sented a box of Marineland Diamond carbons. :)

Les assured me that this has been the second case of heater malfuction since its launch, and they have never seen a case like it before. The heaters are all made in Italy, UL listed, and the company certainly has pride and confidence in offering lifetime warranty on the product. They were going to send the heater to its manufacturer in Italy to investigate. I have been very busy, so I didn't follow up on the results.

Before Les contacted me, I have already invistigated into other heaters, including titanium ones that were recommended by others on this board, but they all seemed to have horrible stories related to their use. I feel comfortable that the Stealth heaters are very well made, even in the event in its malfuction, it didn't cause any damages. Perhaps I was just VERY lucky. At the time of its discovery, the tank was well within its normal temperature.

I'll not hestitate to purchase another Stealth heater for sure. :)

I love won bros pro heat titanium heaters. For that size of tank a couple 300w heaters would be good

Do a search for Finnex heaters, they are titanium and come in different sizes. Don't go for one large heater, get multiple smaller heaters and stage them. If one fails to turn off, it will buy you some time before it cooks your take.

I just recently had a Brand New Won Bros 300w Titanium heater almost cook my livestock...Its calabiration was way off, and the heater will never turn off once it would hit the desired temp the light will come off indicating its off, but you can still see the rays coming from the heater....I sent into Won Bros and their gonna send me a new one..:D
